Net2NO Meetup #3: NeoGeography & the Geospacial Web Experience

Thanks to our own Alan Gutierrez, Net2NO is proud to have two very special guests join us on Tuesday, November 11. Andrew Turner is the man who wrote the book on NeoGeography...no really, he actually wrote the book Introduction to NeoGeography. Along with Francine Stock, the Visual Resources Curator at Tulane University, Andrew and Alan were the winning team for Net Squared's mashup challenge. We will take a look at what lies ahead for the geospacial web, what emerging tools are out there, and see what is beyond GoogleMaps.

There of course is no price of admission but the room fee is $150 which includes the alcohol so donations to offset the costs of the space would be greatly appreciated!

Given the topic, we need a map! LOL I would like to bring a guest but wonder if the meeting is accessible to someone who is on crutches and has troulbe with stairs or long walks.

    Hi David-

Look forward to seeing you there! The venue is handicap accesible--there are no stairs, and you can usually find parking very close. If your friend rides w/ you, you can even drop them off at the door, and then it's a short walk to the back room. So please feel free to bring a guest!

    Thanks!

Thanks, everyone, for another great meeting. Andrew's presentation was fascinating. We were sorry we had to take off so abruptly at the end.

Wonderful presenter, and a great topic especially for us here rebuilding New Orleans and trying to understand plans visually with maps. Saved hours or days of time to quickly learn of all the best open source sites and tools available. In the meet and greet parts I think we would benefit from creating some nice (reusable) name tags - lot of us geeks aren't good with names and sometimes we know only a twitter handle or email, not a face or real name. Perhaps name tags could be printed with Real Name, twitter handle, and an email - maybe a format that hangs on a string of Mardi Gras beads around the neck would work for us and not wreck our best T-shirts.

Awesome! I met a lot of nice people and had a stimulating presentation by Turner. Have folks bring snacks...I was hungry.

New Orleans needs more conversations about how to help New Orleanians learn new technologies and new methods to empower themselves in the recovery.
