Some of you may be familiar with the St. Bernard Project. After Katrina, Liz McCartney and her boyfriend decided to come to New Orleans to help out. They were so touched but what they saw that they haven't left since.
What they did was to start one of the most successful rebuilding projects in history, with over 120 homes rebuilt for families in St. Bernard Parrish. What's more, is that they also understood the psychological impact this tragedy had on families and as a result, a large part of what the foundation did was to partner with LSU and develop a Community Health and Wellness Center.
Due to her remarkable work, Liz has been chosen by CNN to be one of the finalists for Hero of the Year. The winner will receive $100,000 towards their foundation and the public recognition they most definitely deserve.
