CNN Names St. Bernard Parrishs Woman Hero of the Year

We talk a lot about using technology to promote social change. The things one can do with a laptop and a wi-fi now are almost limitless. Sometimes however, we tend to overlook the amazing feats one can accomplish with nothing more than determination and hard work.

That was all Liz McCartney had when she created the St. Bernard Project after Katrina. Living 1,000 miles away in Washington, D.C., Liz and her boyfriend Zach Rosenberg decided to get in their car and drive down to New Orleans to help the recovery effort. They had no plan, no real idea how they would help, only that they felt deep down they needed to do so.

That intense desire to "pitch in and help out" as Liz stated, turned into a 6,000 strong volunteer operation that is currently responsible for building over 120 homes in St. Bernard Parrish and earned her to be nominated as one of CNN's 10 Hero's of the year.

Last month we at Net2no encouraged our members to visit and vote for Liz. After 1 million votes, (13 of which we can proudly say Net2no members were responsible for) Liz McCartney was named the 2008 CNN Hero of the Year.

So please tune in to CNN at 8pm Thanksgiving night to watch an inspiring story of hope and a source of pride for all of us in this community.
