The BBC, Guardian Unlimited, Christian Aid and Medecins Sans Frontieres are just some of the organisations who truly understand the power and cost effectiveness of digital storytelling through audio slideshows. This evening will explore the opportunities that digital storytelling offers. The team from sounddelivery will be showcasing examples of charities and other third sector organisations who've embraced audio slideshows as part of their multi-media work. In true delivery sounddelivery style we won’t be just talking about digital storytelling - we'll try and produce one too.
About SoundDelivery
Sounddelivery has produced a range of audio slideshows for charity clients including the MOD, London Youth and the YHA. You can learn more about the work Jude Habib and Mark Ellis from SoundDelivery are up to at: http://www.sounddeliv...
Sponsors
This event is co-sponsored by Happy Computers and sounddelivery - we're really thankful and excited to have their support and involvement with the NetSquared London group!
Host
Unfortunately, I (Amy Sample Ward) can't be here for this month's event, but, I'm quite happy to share that community member and previous presenter Miko Coffey has graciously volunteered to host! She'll be there to welcome you and probably have some fun conversations. Thanks so much, Miko!
Agenda
5:30 - 6:00 networking
6:00 - 6:10 welcome and introductions
6:10 - 7:15 presentation
7:15 - 7:30 discussion
7:30 + discussion and networking
Thanks for the feedback on the workshop - we at sounddelivery take all comments on board! Unfortunately we were restricted to a small amount of time so weren't able to get around to as much as we would have liked. However, we're glad you seemed to enjoy it and it was a privilege to have you with us!
Did any any photos? We'd like to put a section on it in our newsletter next week and link back to this group. It would be great if you could email them to eric@sounddelivery.org.uk
Thanks!
Interesting, after the event I described the event to the KIDMM discussion community, which provoked a good discussion. But it seemed clear that the phrase "digital storytelling" does not generally evoke the special meaning ascribed to it by SoundDelivery (audio with still images made into a video). I have found that (a) it gets interpreted as all means of telling one's story online, including text and (b) it's seen as individuals contributing personal stories, not marketing messages.
Great comment, Conrad - I think that "digital storytelling" falls to the same fate as "community" and "engagement" and so many other words. Whenever we talk about them, the first thing we need to do is created a shared definition. And, every time we talk about them, it may be different given who we are talking with. I'm glad there was an understanding at the event given the presentation, but all in all what "digital storytelling" means can change based on the context.
Amy - I've lost the link you sent to the resources used for the Digital Storytelling meetup. Can you resend or post here?
Thanks
Steve Dale
Thanks, Steve. I put all the resources into a post in our group's Message Board. You can go directly to that thread here:

Very useful. Sound Delivery folks were very helpful and willing to share. I would be very interested to attend future sessions on the how-tos and other practical steps to producing my own digital story.
