"Morality: What's God Got To Do With It?" - An Evening With Dan Barker

Many theists claim that there can be no morality without belief in God. However, many non-believers lead very moral and meaningful lives. How can they do this without a belief in a supreme being who sets the standards for right and wrong?

Don't miss this fascinating talk by former evangelical preacher turned atheist, Dan Barker, as he demonstrates why true morality must come from within us.

He will be available to answer questions and sign books at a short reception following the lecture.

Barker is an acclaimed atheist activist who served as a Christian preacher and musician for 19 years, but left Christianity in 1984. He is the current co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation with his wife, Annie Laurie Gaylor.

In addition to appearing internationally as a speaker at secular events, he is co-host of Freethought Radio, a Madison, WS based radio program for atheists, agnostics, and other freethinkers that has included interviews with Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Steven Pinker, Julia Sweeney, and Michael Newdow. His most recent book is "The Good Atheist: Living a Purpose-Filled Life Without God" (2011)

Dan was an excellent speaker who was able to share a very personal and powerful message about losing faith in faith and finding his way as a Freethinker. His knowledge of the Bible & the Christian religion was extensive reflecting his years as a fundamentalist minister. I hope we can have him return to speak to NOSHA again in the future. Maybe even a musical interlude on piano to boot!

It sounds like a great topic for a Friday Night in NOLA.
