NOSHA Social Aide and Pleasure Club - Clean Marie Laveau's Tomb

We're gonna try this again and hope the weather holds out this time!

It's a project to help Save Our Cemeteries clean Marie Laveau's tomb and a section of the wall vaults in the back of the cemetery in St. Louis 1.

An opportunity for heathens and voodoo to join forces for a worthwhile project? You be the judge!

Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and wear comfortable clothing for a sweaty, outdoor activity.

I was pleasantly surprised by this experience, it was a lot different than how I had pictured it in my mind. There were tons of tour groups that came through to see the tomb and asked us questions about the work we were doing. I really enjoyed interacting with the visitors and explaining the project. The weather was warm but not unbearably hot, and since we were working with water we got misted a few times which was not unwelcome. It was nice seeing the new NOSHA faces and working with the Save Our Cemeteries and Hands On New Orleans crew, everyone was a pleasure to work with. Looking forward to the next one.

... wanted to thank everyone that came out. It's a worthwhile project and it's very gratifying to go out with this particular group of people and have a visible and positive presence in the community -- looking forward to the next one.

... cannot too much emphasize Rose's comment about parking. DO NOT PARK IN THE PARKING LOT FOR THE BASIN STREET STATION VISITORS' CENTER. The employees there are very friendly but the management is VERY strict about parking in their lot. THEY WILL TOW YOUR VEHICLE.

Message from Save Our Cemeteries re: parking:
"We will meet at the entrance to the cemetery on Basin Street, 9 am.Cemetery doesn't have a street number, but it is at the corner of St. Louis and Basin Streets. The tourist info center is next door, but we are not allowed to let volunteers park there. I apologize, but the building owners are very strict about their lot. Street parking may be available and there is also a parking garage on Rampart Street."

Folks, since there is a NOSHA meeting at 4pm, we are going to skip going to Santa Fe after(as we had previously planned). Hope that gives everyone enough time to go home and dust off before the meeting. Joyce Wainer Kisner Thomas and I will be the contacts at the event.
