Internationa Film "Amandla" - A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony

The power of song to communicate, motivate, console, unite and, ultimately, beget change: that ideal, gloriously realized, lies at the heart of director Lee Hirsch’s inspiring documentary feature film Amandla! A Revolution in Four-¬Part Harmony. The film tells the story of black South African freedom music and reveals the central role it played in the long battle against apartheid. Amandla!’s focus is on the struggle’s spiritual dimension, as articulated and embodied in song. Amandla! A Revolution in Four-¬Part Harmony will be screened at El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center on
Friday, April 5 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. It's free!

But you MUST register to get a seat - http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5599698850#

Dinner Party: We might like go for coffee or dinner after the film if people are interested. There is a hip coffee shop on 103rd street and Lex. Ave. and a very interesting new Puerto Rican Restaurant called La Fonta at 169 East 106th Street (between 3rd Ave and Lexington Ave) with meals ranging from $12 to $17.

The site says it's sold out. I called and the woman said to just come on over b/c folks don't always show up. I'll be the one with the hopeful look on her face... Cheers, Suze

I just got a new work assignment and was wondering if I could finish the task in Brooklyn and still make the movie in Manhattan. Your hopeful posting decided me: you can have my seat. It's under the name Janice Deutsch, order no. 154378509. (The ticket number is the order no. followed by '[masked] 1001.') (If I can do it through the meet-up link, I'll email you the confirmation so you can print out the ticket.)

Don't think I've ever had Puerto Rican food, so it gets my vote. Hope it's okay if I bring two friends (one will not be able to attend the film screening)
