Tao Te Ching Study Group

Explore with us the philosophy and poetry of the Tao, as composed in 600 B.C.E by Lao Tzu in 81 poems called the Tao Te Ching (e.g. Tao - The Way, the Path;  Te, Virtue, Self-Cultivation; and Ching, the Book or Classic). The poems of the Tao contain a philosophy that focuses on one’s inner spirit and include many ideas: Being in the Moment, Spontaneity, Effortless Action (Wu Wei), Enjoying the Journey, the Importance of Nothingness, Listening to your own Inner Way, and the Beauty of Integrating the Opposites (Yin and Yang).

We will explore both the poems and some other literature about the Tao: The Watercourse Way by Alan Watts, Creativity and Taoism by Chang Chung-yuan and The Way of Chuang Tzu. No previous experience with the Tao is necessary, but participants with personal copies are encouraged to bring these to compare different translations.
