Startup Night

Hello everyone!

Our next meetup, Startup Night, has just been confirmed for this Tuesday, August 9 at 7 p.m.

At Startup Night, the lead developers from a couple of innovative NYC startups will sneak out of their Objective-C bat caves for the evening and share some hard-earned technical solutions from the trenches.

Each presenter will take a few minutes to share the vision for their app, then spend the rest of their time covering a specific technical topic that they've encountered during development, along with sharing some code that we will all be able put directly into use in our own apps.

Presenters:
The Lascaux Company
Scott Ostler (lead developer and co-founder) of Lascaux will give us a sneak preview of their tablet app for intuitive and social art-making. As they are still in stealth mode for a few more weeks until launch, I can't even tell you the name of the app.  All I can say is, I've seen their app in-person on the iPad, it is gorgeous and inventive, and has the potential to be huge. Scott will present some solutions he's developed for responsive thumbnailing and uploading in networked apps.

Tracks
Jimmy Hartzell (lead developer) and Vic Singh (CEO/co-founder) will present some lessons about connecting an iPhone app to RESTful APIs, learned in the development of Tracks, a beautifully designed mobile app that lets you create stories through photos with friends and family. More info at http://tracks.io ; App Store link is http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tracks/id438351520

Svpply
Ben Pieratt and Greg Leppert will join us from Svpply, a community of people discovering and sharing the products they love. Ben and Greg will share some ideas for iOS developers who are thinking of creating a startup of their own.

We're hosted this month by Microsoft at 1290 Avenue of the Americas in midtown Manhattan, thanks to developer evangelist Dani Diaz.  Dani will give us a quick update on the latest and greatest in Windows Phone 7 and will be around to talk with any folks who are interested in learning more.

For a smooth check in:
-- Make sure your Meetup.com profile shows your real FIRST AND LAST NAME in your RSVP.
-- Bring government photo ID (driver's license or passport). Security will check the name on your ID against the name on your RSVP.
-- The meetup starts at 7 pm. Please arrive a little early to allow for check-in time in the building lobby.

See you all on Tuesday Aug 9 at 7 p.m. at Microsoft HQ!

Would've liked to hear more from Tracks. It was great to see the guys from Svpply again, and to hear an update of where they're at (and the story of how they've gotten there). Mixel was a solid presentation.
