We like to read books that would contribute attaining higher levels of consciousness and better awareness on the path of spiritual growth. It can be any "good book" that members would like to read.
Our first meeting was on April 16, 2008 to discuss Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" at Borders in Shrewsbury, MA. It has been an amazing journey so far. We have read and discussed great books and met wonderful people. Our members are kind, loving, and caring people who like to discuss books in a peaceful, respectful and friendly manner.
Picking "the book": Members suggest books and they are added to our repository book suggestion list every month. We pick and vote for the book of the month at the end of each meeting.
Meeting place: Our new meeting place is Shrewsbury Public Library.
Meeting day/time: We meet at the end of each month at 6:30pm. The day of the week changes according to our schedules each semester.
Meeting format: Each meeting starts with 30 min. social time. We like to catch up once a month and welcome new members before the discussion starts.
7:00-8:30 book discussion
Book discussion format: It is free flow and random generally. Members speak one after the other, whoever is ready to share at that moment. Each member shares one or two quote/comment/anecdote/story/experience at a time. We have 90 minutes to discuss the book and it is divided between the attendees equally, as much as possible. E.g. If there are 8 members in the meeting, each one should get at least 5-10 minutes to talk.
It is required to read the book of the month and come to the meetings prepared to share at least a couple of quotes and make some "informed comments". After you get and check the book, if you decide not to read it, but you wish to join the meeting anyway, please let the attendees know why it is not appealing to you and give the specific page numbers of the quotes/lines/paragraphs to support your decision/thought/view about that book.
We lead busy lives and it requires extra/special effort to be able to get and read a book and join a book club discussion for a couple of hours once a month. Most of the members read the books line by line, underline the sentences or take notes, and come to the meetings well prepared. Their efforts make a big difference in the quality, efficiency and depth of the discussions.
It is a group process. We make it together. We are open to suggestions, comments, thoughts, views to make it better.
Love and Peace,
