Generative Art Lightning Talks

Our first Generative Art Meetup was great! Let's meet up for Lightning Talks: come ready to explain, in 10 minutes or less, something you know about, or have made, with GenArt techniques. We'll have a mini-dvi hookup to a TV, if you have visuals.

We can all chip in for pizza, or maybe tacos from http://www.tomatillotacojoint.com/newhaven.php.

Dan B -- I didn't mean to be rude with calling your fireflies "maggots." I thought about it a bit more over the weekend, and couldn't escape the visual association. Maybe it has to do with the movement -- flying bugs would have more of an arc. But maggots also don't glow, so, you know, could be just me.....

I need to get this code out somewhere where people can play with it...

Had a great time! Thanks for all the positive feedback. I really enjoyed the conversations, and I picked up something new from each one of you.

Here is a blog post explaining the noise function:

Great talks tonight! Looking forward to the generated music next time.

Here's the blender cheat sheet I mentioned:

Taping it to the wall is a pretty good suggestion.

Where's the best place to park on a wednesday night with snow-covered streets?

    Also: tacos++

    February 19, 2014

    • Dan B.

Word is, street parking in front of, or next to, 59 Elm St should be fine - I'll take a look at it when I go out for lunch.

Also, you can park in the lots behind 59 Elm, and drop payment in the box. People regularly park there (unofficially) w/o paying.

Parking outside looks do-able - you just have to walk around the snow-hill.

Looking forward to the meetup! What kind of setup can we expect?

    February 13, 2014

    • Dan B.

We have a conference room w/ AppleTV, VGA, and mini-display. Should be good!

No problem. The new date works for me too. Not sure what my lightning talk topic will be though...

  • Dan B.

Hey all - to avoid a date collision with the DevOps night, I pushed this back a week, from 2/12 to 2/19. Hope that's ok with everyone. We have an extra week to work on our lightning talks!

Tacos or pizza is fine by me. I will have to figure out my talk!

Looking forward to it! (I like the taco idea...better for vegans. But I don't really care about the food.)
