Plan of the trip
Friday 12 July 2013
6:45pm – meeting at the train station in Clapham Junction
Meeting point: We will meet at Clapham Junction Station at the main entrance, next to the ticket offices. It's the one that goes out to St John's Hill, with the Sainsbury's, Costa and Cafe Nero.
I will be wearing a curious Kat's T-shirt (logo at the back) and I will be waiting for you from6:45pm till 7pm. At 7pm sharp we will make our way to the platform.
If you are late, I'm afraid we will not be able to wait but you will be welcome to catch up with us at the platform or at the destination. If you have any problems please give me a call on[masked] 17. If you are trying to call and not getting through, this may be because 15 other people are also calling me to ask for the way, so please send me a text. As it gets quite hectic when everyone starts arriving and looking for the meeting point, please don't email me or leave a voicemail as I will not have time to check it until after the trip. If you realise last minute that you cannot make it - please change your RSVP and text me so that we are not worried about you.
7:12pm train from Clapham Junction, which arrives in Weymouth at 9:58pm. The Journey takes about 2 hours 46 minutes.
9:58pm arriving at Weymouth and checking in to our lovely hostel. Bedding and linen is supplied. You have complimentary tea/coffee/sugar in the kitchen. You may wish to bring fresh milk with you as we only supply powdered milk
Wi fi: The information you need to connect to the internet will be on a slip of paper in your room and displayed on the reception door.
If you require a towel, let me know and I will order it at the hostel and they will place it in your room. There is a hire charge of £1.00 GBP; you will need to pay it into my account before you make the request.
9am start of the walk, it is 10.98 miles (17.67 kilometers long) and it should take us 5-6 hours. We will arrive around 2-3pm. The walk is quite strenuous, so please make sure you have suitable clothing. It is not only quite long, but there are also sharp climbs and steep descents.
This walk is perhaps the most beautiful on the whole of the coast path. There are some steep climbs up the chalk cliffs, but we will be rewarded with the stunning views ofWorld Heritage Jurassic coast, including the Lulworth cove, St Oswalds Bay and Durdle Door. The view from the top of White Nothe is excellent, with Ringstead baybelow.
We will stop at Durdle door as it is far prettier than Lulworth cove, but you Lulworth is only half an hour away, so you will be able to just walk over there by yourself.
If you would like to eat at the pub, there is Lulworth Inn: http://lulworth-coveinn.co.uk/ (the menu is at the bottom of the page). There aren't any shops/restaurants at Durdle Door.
When we arrive at Lulworth cove you will be welcome to explore the area on your own, if you would like to stay together for lunch please do so, if you would rather go off and take photos it’s up to you as well.
If you would like some more information about the surroundings, please have a look at this leaflet: http://lulworth.com/documents/lulworth-leaflet-2012.pdf
However, please make sure you meet us at the bus stop at 6pm. There is just one bus stop in Lulworth and it is easy to find.
The bus leaves at 18:07 according to the time table and if you are not there we will leave without you. It is the last bus for the day and if you miss it you will have to figure out your own way back to Weymouth. As it is the last bus and hopefully the weather stays amazing, it may be a good idea to keep an eye on the bus stop before this time to make sure it doesn’t fill up – in which case you may not be able to get on. The bus number is 103 towards Bovington Camp, Swinton Avenue Terminus.
We will arrive in Wool at 18:22 and will have a couple of minutes to change. Our train from here leaves at 18:35. We will be back in Weymouth for 7pm.
7pm we will make our way to the hostel to refresh.
I have booked a table at an Italian restaurant http://www.enzo-ristorante.co.uk/specials-board.html for 8:30pm.
The evening activates are not structured, so feel free to look up local bars and decide what you would like to do.
Check out time is 10:30 so you will have to be packed before leaving the hostel.
We will leave the hostel at 9am and catch the bus no 1 from Weymouth King’s Statue. It leaves at 9:20am. (The King’s Statue is about 10 minutes walk away).
We will arrive at Portland Victoria Square around 9:40 and do a short walk to the light house (around 2-3 hours). And catch a bus back to Weymouth. This walk is not as strenuous as the Saturday one - but there is at least one sharp climb, so please be ready for it.
We should be back in Weymouth for 2pm the latest, which will give us a couple of hours to enjoy the seafood festival. If you would like to see the program, please follow this link:
And the map is available here: http://www.dorsetseafood.co.uk/fcimages/files/DSFmap.pdf
am planning to check out any free events and hopefully food stalls, so if you would like to book on any ticketed events please do so separately. But with more than 100 stalls selling both seafood and a range of associated goods I’m hoping for some really tasty and fresh food!
4:30pm we will start getting ready for our return trip, which will mean collecting the bags
If we get separated in the business of the festival I will see you back at the hostel at 5pm and we will make our way to the station together. If you are not ready to leave
Our train leaves at 5:48pm and arrives in Clapham Junction at 8:40pm (2h 53 minutes).at 5pm you will be welcome to catch up with us at the train station.from the hostel and getting to the train station.
