VideoTLV February 2012 Summary

The 28th VideoTLV meeting took place on February 7th at the Dancing Camel Brewery, Tel Aviv. Meeting topic was “Video Redefined (again...)". Over 107 group members gathered, networked, drank beer and watched the presentations. The event was broadcast live online thanks to LiveU.

Gilli Cegla, CEO of Novawind and Curator of VideoTLV opened the meeting with a welcome statement and thanked the VideoTLV team and event sponsors. He shared 2 points relating to the evening's focus topic. The first: As video as content "unit" is becoming mainstream, many new opportunities are emerging; 2 examples were chosen to demonstrate such opportunities by the meeting's presenters. One opportunity relates to finding relevant content, the other how to solve old problems using new technologies. The second point relates to looking beyond social video, on an aggregated stream of originally separate social streams such as Facebook statuses and Tweets, all combined with a personalized video stream, creating a new "streamed social media" experience.

Yoram Mokady, VP Content & Regulation at HOT moderated the presentations.

Jonathan Messika, Co-Founder and CEO of Vodio, spoke about the difficulties users have in finding worthwhile video content online. When a user opens their Tablet they want to be entertained, but they don't necessarily know what they want to watch—the user just wants to watch something that interests him/her. One can search through Facebook and Twitter feeds, but one's friends may not necessarily be interested in the same music or topical content as the user's. So how can a user easily find video that they are interested in?
Vodio aims to solve this problem with an iPad app that creates personalized video streams for the user so that he/she can sit back and watch content that interests them without the pain of trying to find it.

Jonathan gave a quick demo of the app and explained that Vodio tracks thousands of experts (people and sources that are “in the know” when it comes to finding and sharing great video content) and aggregates the videos that they share into 180 different video content channels with topics like Movies, Style, Sports and so on. Users can fine-tune their content channels by connecting their social network accounts and giving content thumbs-up or thumbs-down to give Vodio a better idea of their personal taste (Pandora-style).



Dr. Rami Cohen, Founder and CEO of Telesofia, discussed a major problem that the medical industry, doctors & patients alike, are facing. Medical information, from test results to prescriptions and everything in between—is confusing. There is a need for medical information to be "simplified" so that the every day joe can understand it, in layman’s terms.

Telesofia is looking to solve the problem by changing the interface between the patient and the medical world. The solution takes medical information (for starters, prescription information) and turns it into a personalized video that explains things in a way that the patient can understand.

Videos can be personalized by a doctor or pharmacist on the spot, according to things like a patient’s gender, age, language, and medical condition/background, and sent to the patient via email or SMS. The patient can then watch their personalized video anywhere on any device. Rami showed a demo of two separate videos for the same medication, but for two different patients (a younger woman and an older man) to demonstrate how the real time personalization works.



Yael Givon & Gil Rimon, Founders of Stevie, introduced Stevie – a channel that turns a user's own personal social Feeds (i.e. Facebook and Twitter) and videos into a personalized social video channel. When the user connects their Facebook account, Stevie aggregates content that was shared, liked and commented on by one's friends and puts it all together into a leanback experience.
The result is a "Social media stream" that includes videos, pictures, status updates and tweets all shown simultaneously on the same screen. Stevie displays content across a number of “shows” including top stories, comedy, latest photo uploads and more.

The VideoTLV networking part was powered by Bizzabo’s app for facilitating networking at events. The participants were invited to download the app at: link in order to receive networking suggestions with peers.
