This is a reminder to please adhere to our RSVP Policy which can be found and read in our Pages section. Our goal is to allow as many of our members as possible the chance to attend our trips. With a maximum group size of only 15 or less this becomes a challenge. If you do the math, with 50 trips scheduled for the year and each one allowing 15 people you get a total of 750 spots for our members. We've got 950 members so there's obviously not a spot available for the other 200. And this doesn't even address the possibility of someone going on more than just one trip per year (which of course many of you do). So as you can see, space on our trips is in short supply.
Adding to this problem are those members who are unable (for whatever reason) to adhere to our RSVP Policy. We have this policy in place for a reason and it's expected that all of our members will read and understand this policy. We also expect our members to take responsibility for their actions and respect the fact that there are 949 other members in our group who may want to attend a trip with us. Canceling out on a trip just a few days before the trip shows a lack of responsibility and a lack of respect for the other members our our group. Because of the preparation required to go on a weekend or longer trip it is rare for an open spot to get filled the week of the trip (or 2 weeks before the trip for that matter). So essentially what happens is a spot is taken away from someone who may have been interested 4 weeks before the trip (when the trip was totally filled) but now just days before the trip they are unable to go because they don't have time to get everything ready or have other plans or can't get the time off or can't get someone to watch their pets or whatever.
With that said, we do understand that unexpected things come up and that's why we give everyone 1 "freebie" without any RSVP consequences. This freebie does not include NO SHOWS because there's absolutely no valid excuse for not changing your RSVP and just not showing up.
In conclusion, we all need to give it some more thought before we just click on the YES button for a trip. MAKE SURE YOU CAN ATTEND! If there's a real possibility that you aren't going to be able to make the trip, then don't RSVP Yes for it! Or at the very least change your RSVP prior to that 2 weeks before the trip takes place. You can always sign up a couple days before if there's still a spot open.
