Announcing a new Meetup for The New Mexico Backpackers Meetup Group!
What: Weekend Backpacking Trip to Capulin Canyon (Dome/Bandelier Wilderness)
When: June 26,[masked]:00 PM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: This trip takes us to New Mexico's smallest wilderness, the 5,200 acre Dome Wilderness just north of Cochiti Lake. This wilderness, much like the neighboring (and much larger) Bandelier Wilderness, is known for it's primitive canyonlands and prehistoric ruins. It is also not uncommon to find an abundance of wildflowers and strawberries in the spring. Our trail begins near the summit of St. Peter's Dome and descends into Capulin Canyon via trail #421. Once in the canyon, we will find a place to camp below the 500' canyon walls near the stream. On Sunday we will climb back out of the canyon and return to the car via the Boundary Peak or St. Peter's Dome trail. Optional dayhikes include St. Peter's Dome, Painted Cave and Boundary Peak.
Please Note: Anyone attending our trips must have a signed Waiver & Release form on file with us. This waiver covers all trips and activities for 2009, so you only have to sign it once. If you have not already signed this form, it can be downloaded from our Files section and turned in to the organizer when you arrive for the trip.
