Social Media Workshop / Startup Meetup (Minnetonka)

Event is SOLD OUT. Please join us for a repeat performance on August 12th. See www.newstartupmeetup.com for more information.

Thanks to our sponsor TCF Bank for providing appetizers at the Startup Meetup and supporting startup businesses.

Join us for a FREE workshop with 4 experts in the area of marketing using Social Media. Starting at 3pm, you are invited to learn more about Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and others you may not have even heard of.

This is “the buzz around town” and if you are late getting on the bus - like I am - this is great chance to get caught up and rejoin the herd of hipsters, tweets, geeks, and get with the beat. These guys are up to date with the latest tactics of using social media to connect your business with revenue – in untraditional ways (say that 10 times fast).

Here’s the Who’s Who’s and the What What, huh?
Tyler Olson, (http://smcpros.com...) Social Media Consulting
Mike Ellsworth, (http://www.linkedinso...) LinkedIn Solutions
Mitch Hislop, (http://www.codenameli...) Code Name Lingo
Jim Robinson, (http://www.itrgroupin...) ITR Group

I just listened to the roundtable interview for the cover story in the July issue of New Business Minnesota and I thought I knew what I was doing – not any more. Though these experts have been involved in marketing and technology for years, all their current divisions are less than 6 months old. You don’t want to miss this chance to get up to speed, and it’s FREE! Make plans, take a half day, phone a friend, bring your boss (or not) and RSVP today.

Then at 5pm we will present our famous Startup Meetup networking event at the same location. Meet other local business startups! Come to the official 'Startup-Meetup' to network, meet other entrepreneurs, share ideas and resources, get advice and avoid costly mistakes. Hear how others have overcome hurdles and are achieving success.

There is no cost to attend this event. Starts at 5:00 and will continue as long as people hang around. Plenty of FREE Parking. Feel free to attend one or the other or BOTH.

P.S. Please register for the event and complete the profile questions. This will help all of us learn more about you. Thanks!

Mitchell Hilsop's presentation was the best, then Ty Olson. Jim and Mike were so-so.

Excellent turn-out, learned new social media networking tips from the presenters. Made a great Real Estate investor/investment connection. Excellent food, thank you TCF Bank.

Overall I give it kudos, as I think these free events are a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved. It was probably very beneficial for those not already heavy into Social Networking. I am already heavily into it, so I didn't walk away having learned much...a few new application sites. It was a good teaser for those eager to learn to become clients of those presenting. I was very thankful for the one set of PP printouts. It was really difficult to see the screen with the room layout being flat, and the screen not being elevated. A bit disappointed that all 4 presenters were guys ;-) Also, 3/4 guys that I found on Twitter had very low Follow/Followers #'s. I've got more than some, and appear to be heavier into Twitter than they. No, I did not look up anybody's additional accounts. Twitter is the least known of the top 3 Social Media sites, and I really expected the presenters to have a solid, personal history on the site. Loved the enthusiasm of Tyler & Mitchell.

I thought the panel of speakers was a decent mix of skills /experience/knowledge. Hard to judge the readiness of the audience to learn beyond the basics of the FB, LI or Twttr. I liked the younger speakers more. Their energy and style were relaxed, yet informative. I thought the older presenters were more "canned " in their presentations and delivery. Our Q & A time got squeezed at the end and not having the opportunity to ask a few questions throughout the presentations made the event less engaging. This was my first meeting with Meetup. Nicely organized. Great site. Name sponsor. Good pre- (now post) communications with attendees. The after meeting social hour had a good buffet- Bonus! I am not sure how you will fill the Burnsville site with 1,000 on August 8th, but I will attend!

Coming to the workshop I had obviously heard of Twitter and LinkedIn, but never had I thought they could hold so much potential! I will definitely incorporate a social media plan into my marketing strategy after the great information shared by those presenters!

    Great topic

Scott, Pat and Tom did a great job pulling together this interesting and timely event/topic. The expert speakers made it fun and informative. They did a good job of allowing time for Q&A.
  • Jackie Funk
I thought it was tailored more towards companies/businesses that would need to hire a Social Media consultant. Great referrals and a lot of reasons for making sure your company gets on board this Social Media craze before a "catastrophe" hits.

very good content with all speakers

Good information - good way to connect with those that are more experienced if you need help - good food afterwards.
  • Gregory J. Johnson
Interesting topic. Very nice and professional group behavior. It was nice to be able to get a snack as it was the dinner hour and I bet most of us had not eaten since b-fast.
  • Steve Hickey
Speakers had good energy and pretty interesting to listen to. Provided some useful general information with links to get more detailed help. Nice meet up afrter, personally a quiet person I didn't meet too many people. Have to work on those skills if possible. Plenty of people to meet.
  • June Holmgren
The informational seminar was awesome! Seating could have been better. There were a number of obstructed views with the poles in the middle of the room.
  • Mohammad Hoque
Good amount of people showed up. The information provided was really good. Really Liked first 3 presentation out of 4.
  • Doris Crawford
Very Informative! Gave me lots of tools to "work" the social media advantage!
  • Rebecca Trainor
The location has a lot of poles that blocked the view of the stage. I was not able to see any of the speakers while they were talking. I liked the slides that were provided for the linked in slidshow. It woudl be great to have that for the others. Also, for SMCpros, I would suggest a better form of marketing material. A brochure that basicly explains their services and company would be good to have. Other than that I learned a lot, the speakers were great, and it was a good event for me to go to.

They were all very good speakers and had good information. I felt that I was a little ahead of the ball for this speaking engagement and that it was a little more for beginning social media for businesses which may be what it was intended for. It was a great presentation with wonderful information!

I found it very helpful to have four experts covering a different social media instead of all four talking about the same thing.
  • Ann Reid
Really liked the panel format. Glad they held the questions to the end AND liked the informal time afterward. Each presenter had dense and meaningful information. Would have liked each presenter to have handouts.
  • Jon Scott
Social Media Workshop was GREAT. I will not miss another event!!
  • Rhonda Lofland
I thought it was excellent & learned some things I didn't already know. Of the 4 speakers only 2 gave handouts to follow along with their presentations. It would have been nice if the other 2 had done the same thing. Overall I really enjoyed it.
  • Joe Cleary
I was impressed with troy's presentation. Good information on how to use facebook!
  • Robert L. Porter
Excellent and timely topic. I learned a ton, and took away from the meeting notes I can actually use about social networking.
