RE: [newyorkai] space in dumbo

I like what I am hearing.
1.   We need to discuss the 'When', with serious consideration to everyone's
schedule/availability.  I can do it weekdays after 7 and/or the weekend, I'm
flexible.  I think the class could either be viewing of the lecture and if so certainly
with a follow-up.  If anyone is having math issues or whatever, the sessions could
serve as a back up.  I am sure that everyone wants every one in our group to
do well, as a team.  And individually on the examines.
Also new topic inclusion is a good point.  With some time management we can
accomplish a lot effectively.  How long are the lectures?
When can we all meet?

Just following up discussion about usin gthe conference area of the office I share in Dumbo at 68 Jay St.
For the most part, we can have near-exclusive use of the office in evenings after 7 or on weekends.

However, any meetings there of more than say 4 people should be planned at least 5 days in advance to make sure that we don't double schedule with the other tenants of the office.

Look forward to starting the class!

All options are open depending on interest. I encourage people interested in running sessions to tailor what they want to cover and see who responds and we can work it out. That could be a simple group viewing of the on-demand lectures, or a deep dive into a topic.

Rob,

Do the lectures formally start on October 10th?

Do we know WHEN they start? Or can you watch them whenever you want? Have we agreed on a time and place to get together to watch them?

Does it make any sense, depending on how serious this group is, to do "classes" where we watch the Khan Academy videos on Probability and Linear Algebra and discuss them? Or is that too much in addition to the actual class?

At the least, groups can watch the lectures together and discuss. And if you're taking the advanced track the reviews could get pretty deep around discussion of the problem set topics (don't share answers, just techniques though). We could even go off on tangents for some topics - its just a survey course so it should cover quite a bit.

Anyone who is willing to host or organize some sessions can sign up and I'll designate you as an event coordinator so you can schedule meetings, and students can choose which ones are more convenient. Just send a note if you want to help.

You can take it at two levels, one with just some minor quizzes and one with real exams. I thought that it might be useful to encourage some additional discussion locally.
