Sid Grant and Gayle Madeira just won the 2011 U.S. Tango Championship, salon category. Sid and Gayle donated all of the winning proceeds to Ballroom Basix, a not–for-profit, noncompetitive, arts–in–education initiative committed to the enhancement of students' educational, social and fitness skills through the fun-filled Ballroom and Latin dance experience. Sid is the director and founder of Ballroom Basix. The Ballroom Basix website is: www.ballroombasix.com
Sidney B. Grant (aka Doctor Dance!) has enjoyed a ballroom and latin dance career spanning over two decades of dedication to the art of social dancing, specializing in Argentine Tango. After capturing the Novice Professional title at the Fred Astaire Championships in Atlantic City in 1990, Grant quickly realized that social – not competitive – dance was his calling. Teaching young and old alike in a variety of settings (studios, schools and senior centers, as well as corporate and private events) Sid is in constant demand for his unique instruction and performance. His passion for partner dancing has enabled him to build a worldwide clientele.
Gayle Madeira is an award-winning painter, dancer and choreographer based in New York City. She has toured extensively as a ballet and modern dancer, choreographer and teacher, both nationally and internationally with many dance companies including her own.
