Hike Curcuit du Loup

Lets try this again
Village centre parking to left by big landing field

Start point Gréolières

This is a cheerful route with the best of everything , mountain views, beautiful woodland trail (covered in primroses in April) refreshing river valley if you like to swim.... From the mountain village of Gréolières where the hang gliders launch and land to the old town of Ciperies and back

Ok my darlings . autumn is here and weather likely more fickle, time to reload the rucksack, add the flashlight and matches, break out the layers, waterproofs, hats, gloves and walkin' boots. We are staying with trails in back country for a few more weeks,

Bring picnic, energy bars and water and or flask coffee though there is a coffee shop in Ciperies . Gather at start of trail for 9.30am, lets aim to start on time

The mountain in the Alps -Maritimes is characterized by a strong relief with steep slopes . Thus, the villages were they settled in a place of communal territories from which people could better radiate the seasons , reaching the different terroirs above the valley to escape the winter fog and enjoy sunshine longer, but not too high, to stay close to places of culture. The selected altitude began to reach grain fields and allowed to reach without too long a journey to the occupied areas in the offseason and summer pastures : Cipières (750 m) and Gréolières (830 m) specifically meet these conditions . Note the castles that face the heart of these two separated by the Loup Valley villages classic square building of the seventeenth century Cipières , near a large meadow and castle ruins Gréolières with its high perimeter walls of the eleventh .

You get from this we are going down and up ....

Hope to see you back soon Irene, yes you have missed some great hikes. Ian I apologise we couldn't provide a more spectacular landscape for your debut hike with this group. Note to self: reorganise landscape for Ian. Take your point about timing, will do better. Of course if we had started 9.30am or close we would have only missed the mark by 1 hour. Lunch by the river would have been nice but clearly some had foregone breakfast and the need to eat was overwhelming I agree, having basic historical and environmental info about the area would enhance the experience. Feel free to 'Fill your boots' one and all and share what you can find! Personally, between the day job and current 'Not for Profit' projects this one included, my cup she runneth over....

Seriously Ian, you made some valid points. especially about timing, our start time was tardy to the extreme, We (me included) need to be respectful of others who make the effort to be on time. I did a quick wiki on Bre sur Roya but not enough words available on meetup to post it here, if you have a moment perhaps you could print it off .

I really would love to join you, but have a squeezed nerve under my right food (between toes...). Can't walk! Not even a small stroll... Am feeling really sorry for myself as missing out on great hiking opportunities! Might need a little operation. Will see a specialist in Monaco tomorrow. Have fun! Wished I could be there! Irene

Effort level about right. Duration estimation inaccuracy by about 2 hours was inconvenient to some of us. Company was excellent. Some people felt the route wasn't spectacular or panoramicenough, but I thought it was great. But with hindsight we might have planned the snack break to be near the lovely babbling river. Also if anyone ( me included?) has time to gather some basic historical and environmental info about the area that could be fun to share.

Also for some reason the randoxygene website is down: I wanted to check on the difficulty level of walk. I guess I will arrive and if it sounds too hard I will just walk part of the way!

I am hoping that Marjie is referring to the Allee de la Ferrage, or D2 when approaching Greolieres from the East.

errrr did I say landing field ? That might lead you to be looking for a runway which there is def not. Big green clearing best describes it . Basically where the hang gliders launch and land from . Once you get very close you will come to a fork, to the right and up will take you to village, or left and straight, street parking opposite field we are aiming for. Left is Best!

I said yes but I am not sure how I will get to Greolieres yet, coming from Monaco. I will need to check I can rent a car (should be ok), and prepare to leave here by 8 am. A ride from Nice station (Riquet or Centre) would be an alternative, if anyone can help.
