Why is everything at shift fitness????

I was wondering why this is called a nightlife meetup when all the meetups are at shift fitness? The nature of the meetups doesn't seem to match the name of the group. Also does one of the organizers own/ work at shift fitness because all the meetups are there. This group seems to be a promotion for a business. Also no one seems to be signing up for the meetups. I suggest renaming this group to something that fits the nature of the meetups, or changing the meetups to fit the name of the group.

I'm hoping that events involving actual NIGHT LIFE will be added - that's why I joined this group! I agree Randy - doesn't seem right to me either!! I don't recall doing anything with this group since I joined it!!

I apologize for not responding to this discussion earlier as I just saw it.

You are correct that the Nightlife Meetup name is not an accurate representation of this group. I am the original organizer of this group and have been for 7+ years. I am the longest running meetup organizer in the Twin Cities.

I began this working full time in an office and needed some exercise and dancing was what I found I liked to do. People indicated that they wanted more intimate settings so I opened up my house to over 100+ parties and gatherings. Even my husband that I met in Meetup still agrees with me and we still open up our hearts and home to Nightlife members. Many of our meetup friends that are married and even met at our home. Even our wedding reception last year was on Nightlife calendar. How awesome was it to have 5 of the 6 people that were at the 1st meetup Sept 2006 come to our reception?

I have also attended funerals of meetup friends when family has passed. I also attended funerals of our members that passed at 50 and 51 due to poor diet and lack of exercise.

How do we reflect the love and support that is so much more than on a dance floor?

Yes, I am the owner of Shift Fitness and Massage. At my graduation party, nightlife members designed the logo 1 1/2 years ago. I have crossed the finish lines with members indicated that they wanted to run a 5 K's. Shift was created with the health and fitness of Nightlife friends and the Minneapolis community in mind.

Many of the nightlife events such as Famous Dave on Monday's, Lee's Liqour Weds, Wallyball Weds have been on the calendar for 3+ years so many regulars go and do not sign up. Don't let the lack of numbers detour you from going. Also, events at Shift are for a community so there are others there as well.

As for Shift, Nightlife has helped me to realize the positive benefits of a Supportive environment. As more nightlifers indicated they wanted to learn to dance I opened my business and we have taught 250+ people to Belly Dance, Polka, Salsa as well as Swing Dance. We teach them and support them by bring them out to local businesses and dancing as a group. Not all of these events are on the calendars.

What is the best name for this loving, social and supportive group? Nightlife may be how it started but it has evolved to so much more.

Thank you,
