Synopsis: Anna, mother of four, wants to make up for all of the holidays her career forced her to miss. Her kids, most of them grown up and out of the house, would rather FaceTime than speak face-to-face. After it takes a Facebook post to learn her daughter is moving to another country, the newly retired Anna isn't going to let her family miss another holiday together. If that means a Thanksgiving dinner in the middle of spring, then that's exactly what Anna will do. What Anna and her husband didn't expect was just how much their kids have been hiding (besides bringing their own turkeys) and the many hoops they'll need to jump through to make this special holiday a civil one.
Production: Stuffing The Turkey will combine both live performance and digital film to tell one cohesive story. Including a full stage set, along with two screens mounted above, the narrative will seamlessly transition from stage to screen and vice-versa. The inclusion of digital film in a stage piece is nothing new, but the extent to which Stuffing The Turkey will incorporate the digital medium is unprecedented in blackbox theatre.
Company: Based in Chicago, Broad Shoulders Productions focuses on top quality independent theater and film production. Consisting of filmmakers, storytellers, actors, writers, gaffers, musicians, cinematographers, directors, and producers, BSP explores the possibilities of multi-form storytelling. Playwright: Writer and director, Tony Mendoza is a graduate of Millikin University with degrees in both English and Theater, for a focus in Playwriting. As the Director of Special Programs, at the Illinois Theater Center, developed the Hispanic Theater Project, giving an opportunity for local Latino artists to create and establish themselves in the Chicago theater community. Since Millikin, Mendoza has written and directed several theatrical and film productions, such as Graham Cracker (2012) and Andy & Johnny (2013).
