THE MILLIONAIRESS at ShawChicago Theater Company

THE MILLIONAIRESS
by George Bernard Shaw
Directed by Robert Scogin

Synopsis:
Epifania Fitzfassenden, a millionairess, is flush with cash but bankrupt in the market of romance. Her husband, Alastair, is seeing another woman, and Epifania's current companion, Adrian Blenderbland, is penniless and uses her for access to expensive restaurants. When Epifania and Alastair attempt to file for divorce, they inadvertently hire the same lawyer, Julius Sagamore, a man with a shady past that includes check kiting. Enter a mysterious Egyptian doctor, and the story has all the ingredients of a Ben Jonson-like Renaissance comedy set in the present day.

Sunday's show includes a pre-show reception of wine and snacks, and discussion with Artistic Director Robert Scogin about ShawChicago's presentation style and history, in the Ruth Page Library. You'll be directed to the library when you pick up your tickets at the Box Office.

The production was in the format of a reading so it was not your usual production. After a few minutes though you get forget that fact and just get caught up in the story. This was my first Shaw play and I rather enjoyed the story and the characters. It was definitely a new and interesting way to see a show. And the reception and pre-show discussion was a nice touch. I am excited to see what ShawChicago has in store for the rest of the season.

NOTE: Reception is ONLY for Meetup members, so be sure to mention you are with the Meetup group if you purchase your tickets via phone. Directions to the Library will be given to only patrons who mention that they are with the Meetup group. Other discounted ticket buying options will not be given directions to the reception because there is no way to distinguish those tickets from Meetup tickets. BUY online or via phone only. If you wish to purchase tickets at the Box Office on the day of the event, please send me your name so I can inform the theater of your intentions. They need an estimated count of attendees for the reception as soon as possible. Please change your RSVP if you will not be attending!
