Montclair Environmental Movie Night: A Fierce Green Fire

5 Years of Environmental Documentaries in Montclair!

For our anniversary film, Montclair Environmental Affairs office and Community Green present – A FIERCE GREEN FIRE: The Battle for a Living Planet – the first big-picture exploration of the environmental movement, grassroots and global activism spanning fifty years from conservation to climate change. Directed and written by Mark Kitchell, Academy Award-nominated director of Berkeley in the Sixties, and narrated by Robert Redford, Ashley Judd, Van Jones, Isabel Allende and Meryl Streep, the film premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2012, has won acclaim at festivals around the world, and in 2013 begins theatrical release as well as educational distribution and use by environmental groups and grassroots activists.

Inspired by the book of the same name by Philip Shabecoff and informed by advisors like Edward O. Wilson, A FIERCE GREEN FIRE chronicles the largest movement of the 20th century and one of the keys to the 21st. It brings together all the major parts of environmentalism and connects them. It focuses on activism, people fighting to save their homes, their lives, the future – and succeeding against all odds.

Anyone who is an environmental activist at any level can learn from the past. It was, for example, jaw dropping that the mothers of Love Canal had to hold EPA officials hostage just to get the government to do anything about a dire and clear cut environmental disaster.

“We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire dying in her eyes. I realized then, and have known ever since, that there was something new to me in those eyes—something known only to her and to the mountain. I was young then, and full of trigger-itch; I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves would mean hunters’ paradise. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view.”

I just joined. I am sorry that I cannot attend the meet-up on April 18. I am working that evening until 11 pm. I work at the Whole Foods Market in Paramus NJ. I am involved in the Whole Foods Market Green Mission Program in the store I work at. On Monday April 22 I have invited some environmental groups to come and set up a table in the cafe there with information about what they do.
NJ Audobon and a Biodynamic Farming group will be among them I joind your group so that I can have an outlet outside of work to talk and connect with others with environmental interests but I am wondering now if anyone from this group would like to set up a table also to talk about any issues or just to meet other people with similar interests. The tables and space is free of charge and there is good foot traffic in the mall. The time is from 11am until 3 pm on Monday April 22. Please let me know if you would like to have a table for the group.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
