SUNDAY AFTERNOON at The Clairidge: "Albert Nobbs"

MY FLICK PICK is:

"Albert Nobbs"

SHOWTIME: 4:00 PM

WHY?: This film has been intriguing me - and then I saw clips from it at the SAG Awards and it looks absolutely fab. This is Glenn Close's baby, she co-wrote and produced it because it's the one role she said she wanted to play before she dies. Also, Janet McTeer is no slouch in it, either.  A MUST SEE for me.

SYNOPSIS: Rotten Tomato Consensus 51%: but most of the TOP critics loved it.

Notable performances by Glenn Close and Janet McTeer mark this carefully made story of women passing as men in 19th-century Dublin.

Five-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close stars in this emotional and thought-provoking tale of a woman forced to live as a man in 19th Century Ireland. After thirty years of keeping up the charade, a new love threatens to destroy everything she's worked so hard to build.

RATE THE MEETUP: Don't forget to rate the meetup after you attend it! Please check all five stars if you enjoyed yourself since it will help us to attract sponsors - so please be generous in spirit. And remember, you are rating the EVENT - NOT rate the MOVIE. You can have a great time with us and still not love the flick!

SAY HI!
While it's great if we can hook up in the lobby beforehand - what matters most is hooking up in the lobby AFTER the film. Just look for me or a small group of people and say "Hi", don't be shy. Let me know you showed up - I LOVE to meet everyone in person!

FILM CHAT & EATS:
The whole point is to TALK about the film, right??? So, depending upon the size of the group, we usually pick a nearby restaurant or cafe and tromp on over there en masse. We really do have some great film conversations and get to explore the film even further than we normally would.

Hope to see you then!!

I really enjoyed the film ... obviously a labor of love by Glenn Close. (Her portrayal of Albert Nobbs reminded me a bit of Alec Guinness - except tinier and fey-er.) Janet McTeer delivers a fearless performance as another woman-in-hiding, this one with quite a bit more testosterone than the frightened little Nobbs. Thanks to the folks who joined me ... we went to Leone's and chatted about the film (I had a fabulous chicken formaggio that I will enjoy again tonite as well!)

I thought the movie style and actor portrayals facinating.
