Love to go to see indie and foreign films and then talk about them afterward? Me, too!

Hi, I'm Francesca, an indie filmmaker and trans-media artist who lived in Manhattan for 25 years and thought nothing of calling a friend and suggesting we meet in an hour at one of the many arthouse theaters around town.

But, when I moved to NJ I found my friends here did NOT share my tastes so I created the NJ ArthouseFilm Society (just to sound fancy). And, wouldn't you know it, there are tons of people like me right here in Jersey who love to see foreign, indie or experimental films  - and some Hollywood fare, too! I'm still active in the NYC film and theater scene - so from time to time (I also organize the Master Thespian meetup group), we include meetups to attend storytelling events or performances in Manhattan. We're all about the "cultchah"!

WHAT WE DO!

Whether you're a film buff or just a movie-lover, why not join us as we explore the cool films that come our way! We see a lot of them at the Montclair Clairidge Cinema (and other artsy theaters) and afterward we pick a local joint to go grab a bite and discuss the film we saw at length. We give it a Thumbs Up, a Thumbs Down or even a Thumbs in the Middle and share what we really thought of it! It doesn't matter if you're in the film "biz" or not, everyone's opinion counts - it's a lot of fun as well as eye-opening.

NO NO's:

Since we have a large membership so there's NO need to RSVP "NO" - it's kind of a bummer. Frankly, we're just interested in the "YES" RSVPs!

REGULAR EVENTS:

Two semi-regular events we have are Sunday Afternoon at the Movies and Wild-Card Wednesdays but I'd love to add many more - so if you'd like to see a film in your area and would love some company, why not create a meetup event here host it yourself?

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Be on the lookout for some SPECIAL events from time to time ... I've taught filmmaking and film study in NY and NJ and plan to present some private indie film screenings & festivals, "Evening with the Filmmaker Q&A's" and even Oscar Parties!

DINE-IN MOVIES:

We're also having fun with the new DINE-IN theater experience and have fun food & film meetups in Edison and West Orange.

I've chosen to allow members to create meetups events here, so if you're in the mood for a movie -  PLEASE host your own NJ Arthouse movie in your area!

So why not join up with other like-minded Jersey souls? We keep it pretty casual and we're just regular folks - there's no particular "in" group or anything. Just friendly people who love to go to the movies!
