MY FLICK PICK is: "Evocateur: The Morton Downey, Jr. Movie"
ACTUAL SHOWTIME: 4:20 pm
WHY?: I remember this guy, he was NUTS!! I'm basically curious to know what he was all about - a fascinating, dislikable man.
Before entire networks were built on populist personalities; before reality morphed into a TV genre; the masses fixated on a single, sociopathic star: controversial talk-show host Morton Downey, Jr.
In the late 80's, Downey tore apart the traditional talk format by turning debate of current issues into a gladiator pit. His blow-smoke-in-your-face style drew a rabid cult following, but also the title "Father of Trash Television." Was his show a platform for the working man or an incubator for Snooki and The Situation? Ironbound Films' EVOCATEUR: THE MORTON DOWNEY JR. MOVIE dissects the mind and motivation of television's most notorious agitator.
Lower the safety bar for a rollercoaster ride through Downey's euphoric ascent to fame and nauseating plummet to infamy. EVOCATEUR features interviews with Herman Cain, Pat Buchanan, Chris Elliott, Gloria Allred, Sally Jessy Raphael, Alan Dershowitz, Curtis Sliwa, and Richard Bey. Never-before-seen footage reveals Downey's behind-the-scenes fistfights and foibles. Animation recreates the legends of Downey that bounce between executive nightmare and schoolboy fantasy.
Chris Elliott, Victoria Jackson, Gloria Allred
RATE THE MEETUP: Don't forget to rate the meetup after you attend it! Please check all five stars if you enjoyed yourself since it will help us to attract sponsors - so please be generous in spirit. And remember, you are rating the EVENT - NOT rate the MOVIE. You can have a great time with us and still not love the flick!
While it's great if we can hook up in the lobby beforehand - what matters most is hooking up in the lobby AFTER the film. Just look for me or a small group of people and say "Hi", don't be shy. Let me know you showed up - I LOVE to meet everyone in person!
FILM CHAT & EATS:
The whole point is to TALK about the film, right??? So, depending upon the size of the group, we usually pick a nearby restaurant or cafe and tromp on over there en masse. We really do have some great film conversations and get to explore the film even further than we normally would.
Hope to see you then!!
