yes, it was an outstanding movie. I'd say see my comments, but I think you heard most of them---I didn't realize this writing was just going to us 5 who went--first time doing a response! see you! Didn't see your mention of a film at Paramus until tonight. Maybe another time. Thanks.

really good. powerful. meaningful. gave me more of the feeling of being a slave. not varnished over. a movie which gave me more intensely the feeling of the attempts to utterly dehumanize the people who were enslaved... also gave a more nuanced picture of slaveholders--weren't all the same, some of them had very serious doubts, but were caught in this societal web that made it harder for them to see (and, especially, act against) the terrible inhumanity of the institution--inhumane, in fact, for everyone.
MAIN thing is... It made me feel so deeply the crime done on the African people who were made slaves. A major sign of a willingness to honestly recognize the depth of the wrongs-and, to see how not acknowledging the truth has hurt us all, deeply-would be, to see every school in America watch TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE. . We are far from being healed. I felt that we need to discuss Reparations from a whole new light, having seen this. How, in major ways, this country was built by slaves.

Can people just stop by after 6 since the movie doesn't start until 6.40 pm? I am running late and cannot be there at 6 pm on the dot.

Since it's hard for everyone to be there exactly when the movie starts, we met in the lobby both before and after the movie. Maybe see you next time?

This was an outstanding and thought provoking film. Friendly people and lively discussion over dinner afterwards. A 50% no show rate though.
