Fruita, CO? Moab, UT? Anyone interested??

I have to head out to Colorado Springs, CO for work the first week of October. I have to work Monday - Wednesday, September 30 - October 2. I plan to bike in Fruita or Moab on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 3, 4, and 5. Fly home from Denver on Sunday, October 6. I did the same thing last year and spent all 3 days exploring the trails in Fruita on my own (Kokopelli Loops and 18 Road Trails) so I am somewhat familiar with those trails. Had a great time!

I've never been to Moab and it is another 1.5 hour drive west from Fruita, but I would consider going. Fruita is already a 4+ hour drive from Denver, but worth it! Rented a great bike from a local shop in Grand Junction (I think you can fly there) and brought out everything else I needed. The scenery is spectacular....see pics below all taken by me on the trails (except the last one, which I took in town).

There is some info on the trails I rode last year here: http://www.mtbproject.com/trail/290187

Anyone interested?

I'm finally back in NJ. Fruita was awesome and so was Sedona! Thanks Gary for putting the first part of the trip together.

Fruita - 3 days, 70.6 miles, 9:41 hours moving time, 8343 feet elevation
Sedona - 5 days, 106.5 miles, 19:51 hours moving time, 13,199 feet elevation

I was barely able to walk off the plane last night. Let's go back out west again soon, Moab next?

Just found out that I have the opportunity to be in Phoenix around that time (~Oct 3-9).
Jim, I could definitely ride Sedona at some point. Ideally, I would ride Sedona on Monday Oct 7 and/or 8th, but probably could do Sunday (I'll be with my GF and she will be working all day on Mon and Tues).
I'm less sure about joining for the CO/UT portion...
If I fly to Denver on Wednesday, Oct 3 do you guys have room in the car for me?
I would probably meet my girlfriend in Salt Lake City on Sat Oct 5. I can rent a car from Grand Junction Airport whenever Jim gets dropped off there.

I don't get to Sedona until Oct 9th. I'll be in Phoenix for work the 5th-9th, and then drive straight up to Sedona after that. If you can hang around longer, let me know. I am staying at the La Quinta in Oak Creek Village and renting from Absolute Bikes across the street. You can crash in my room if it works out for you.

10/2 - 10/6 Outerbike is happening. Great value for the money, and just plain fun [I attended a couple years ago]

Heya Gary...looks good so far, what time do you return on Sun? Newark?

Andy, my flight leaves EWR at 9:51am on Wed and lands in Denver at 12:07pm. Kim is flying out the day before and we are going to have Gary pick us up in the afternoon. I am going to be flying from Grand Junction to Phoenix on Saturday night for a work conference. I'll be riding in Sedona after that before heading back home. Let me know if you are serious about coming and we can try to figure out a plan.

Gary, what time do you anticipate leaving Colorado Springs for Fruita on Wednesday? What about the drive back to Denver? I need to be in Phoenix for a conference Oct 7-9. I'm planning to stay in Sedona for 3-4 days after to ride, but I haven't booked my travel yet. There is a slim chance I could fly to Denver or Grand Junction to ride in CO, and then fly from there to Phoenix. We can discuss this at the Mahlon ride tomorrow. It would be pretty awesome to ride Fruita and Sedona/Flagstaff back to back!

Hey Gary. Dan Matthews here. I will be in Moab the week after for the Moab Rocks race, so I will miss this. If you get to Moab my first recommendation would be to definitely hook up with Coyote shuttles and do the Whole Enchilada - really awesome, beyond words and totally worth the drive! Give Mark a call, maybe he can drive out andpshow you around :). Ping me if you want some recomendo on other Moab stuff- have fun!

Hi Dan, Nice to hear from you! Thanks for the recommendations. I will call Mark and I think I have your number so I'll give you a call as well to pick your brain some more!!
