I've been an avid hobbyist photographer of sports and other events for the last decade. Those subjects, firstly, because I've long enjoyed playing and watching sports. Secondly, I enjoy capturing a set of images that gives a good characterization of an event. I like doing that for events, as opposed to other types of photography, such as nature or still life. Nothing against those, I just gravitate toward action/events because the time limitation adds a challenge and mystery that I like. While there are pros who cover the Fort Collins Foxes (summer, college-level baseball, June & July), I've done saturation volunteer photography of it. The team GM gives me on-field access. I plan to start a similar thing with local Roller Derby in 2013-14.
Avid amateur. I want to hang with like-minded pros & hobbyists. I did that a lot when I was heavily into juggling, and should have sought it out years ago.
Go on photo safaris together. Critique/advice. Sharing/learning techniques of photography and, in case I can some day do this professionally, the business aspect. Surely more, but the main points for now.
Canon 7D with kit 28-135. [masked] IS USM. [masked], 2.8 L IS II USM Manfroto unipod & tripod.

I've been an avid hobbyist photographer of sports and other events for the last decade. I want to take it from being a solo activity to meeting local photographers. Doing so with a juggling club back in the 70's made that far more interesting.
