Saturday Six

Hello all,

Are you up for the challenge?

The premise is simple. Meet on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., a writing prompt will be given, and each participant cranks out six hundred words in two hours. We'll spend the last hour reading the work. No critiques just positive reinforcement.

To motivate people to get up early and write there will be a prize each session. The criteria for winning will be on how well you stuck to the writing prompt. To be eligible to win you must write a complete short fiction piece of at least six hundred words and agree for it to be published on http://www.coalreview.com. After you've taken time to edit and polish it of course.

The winner gets a $25 gift card of their choice.

Topic/phrase and prize winning criteria will be announced at the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Kari

At first, I didn't like the prompt but as the day went on, I couldn't help thinking about it and the next thing I knew, I was writing a story. Here's how it starts:
"His name was the Reverend Ebeneezer Jebediah Malone. He drove a monster truck on the weekends.
The thing had tires that were taller than my dad and wider than my great aunt Lois." I'm off and running.

Here is the prompt- Use these five words somewhere in your writing: king, monster, heyday, blood and tame. (All are from Hamlet, but don't let that necessarily influence what you write.) Only one other showed up, so there'd be no voting anyway. Have fun with the prompt and we'll see you next month Sat 6ers!

Hey gang- I am here and wondering what brave souls will be venturing out to make it here? I will post the prompt here either way in about 10-15 mins.

I won't be there. I am a casualty of the weather. I wasn't expecting our vehicle to have so much ice! I estimated that I wouldn't get there before 9:30, and thought that was too late. Could you email me the prompt, so I may write something for my self. Thank you! Sorry I won't be there.

I would love to do this again, but I'll be traveling the weekend of the 1st. Would it be possible for me to join remotely? I could call-in for the prompt and then email my work to someone by the deadline.

I am ok with that. Gang, what do you think?

And... I'm no longer traveling, so I'm in. I'll see you all tomorrow morning.
