Sahat Yalkabov Creates a TV Show Tracker using AngularJS, Node.js and MongoDB

Hello noders!

This month, Sahat Yalkabov will be treating us to a full hour of make-it-from-scratch-fast live-coding. When we're all done, we'll all be wiser and left with a working TV show tracker.

The final product will be cool, but more importantly we'll see everything it takes to get there - starting completely from scratch. Along the way he'll will cover building a REST API with Express, Authentication and Signup process with Passport, using Mongoose to interact with MongoDB. He'll build the entire front-end with Angular.js and Bootstrap SASS. Use a third-party API and XML parser to obtain information about TV shows and episodes. Thrown in will be using SendGrid to send emails. And finally we'll see how to use Gulp.js to optimize JS and CSS assets, followed by deploying the entire project to Heroku.

Thanks, as always to Shutterstock for hosting us!

Format:

6:30 - 7:00 - networking

7:00 - 7:20 - lightening talks

Patrik Ring - A/B testing is a great way of knowing if the changes you just made to your code and design are actually better. Patrik will walk through how setting up your own A/B testing as a service isn't that hard and how they built theirs at Bloglovin.

A great job, but perhaps you tried to put too much into the one hour you had. Still, a great presentation.

Thanks again for everyone who came out last night! We had some awesome presentations! Thanks to Patrik and Sahat for teaching us about a/b testing and throwing down code! Thanks to Shutterstock as well. Be on the lookout, soon, for an invite to next month's event!

Hi everyone. This was my first time speaking, but I hope you enjoyed tonight's presentation. Sadly I couldn't cover everything in great detail due to the sheer length of the material to cover. I would love to hear your feedback so I can I do a better job next time. Either leave a comment or send me a private email to [masked]. Thanks again for coming tonight.

Fantastic presentation, I like your use of snippets without going overboard and making them too big. You have a bright future ahead of you, keep up the great work! Is it possible to get a copy of the video?

We're working on the video, Mike. There's a chance the view of the screen may not be perfect, in which case you'll at least have the audio - which you can pair with this: http://sahatyalkabov....

    Hi Matt/Peter,

I can't make this one. I was wondering if you're going to record the talk.

    June 17, 2014

    • Nicholas M. C.

I could record from my phone but I'll be flying down the highway from White Plains sometime between 6:30 & 7, be lucky to catch a portion of the keynote talk.

I'm assuming he was asking what languages/frameworks should we have installed prior to getting there
