nodejs Message Board › Presenters
NodeJS has been growing in popularity, as have our meet ups. We've had a few recent & upcoming meetup topics that have had unprecedented interest, with large numbers of Noders on the waitlist.
Our discussion format is great for rapidly changing things like NodeJS and allows us to have more available locations, and to choose topics based on prevailing interest each week and have everybody participate, sharing their insights. After running tech meet ups for a few years, we've found that 30 people is about the upper-limit for discussion-style meet ups. We recognize that some topics can be extremely popular and also have more "shelf life", so a presentation won't be out of date by the time we can arrange a larger space. It has always been our intention to be a hybrid of weekly discussions and less frequently presentations to larger groups on these "evergreen" topics.
We have one of our first presentations in a few weeks, but we're looking for members interested in presenting on other topics (especially evergreen) that would be of interest to our members. If you're an expert in Callback Design Patterns, or Event-Based Programming, or another topic, please let us know if you would like to present.
While we can't get a large venue, or presenters every week, we do plan on repeating highly popular topics, even in the discussion format. If you couldn't attend our first discussion on the topic, we hope you can join one of our repeat discussions in the coming months. As always, try to signup for each meetup early. We often try to post the topics even before we've set a date or location. Also, feel free to make a suggestion for a topic. If you missed out on one of our discussions, either due to capacity, or you couldn't make the date, suggest the topic again.
Thank you to all our members for your support & helping to make NY's NodeJS meetup one of the fastest growing tech groups. We're approaching 400 members now (~half the size of the Hadoop, Mongo, NoSQL & NYCRuby meetups). We've been amazed with how quickly the group has taken off & hope you will help us continue to make it better.
