Node.js Meetup - Thursday, Dec 6th, 2012 - 7:00pm

Greetings Noders :),

We will have our next Meetup at Capital Factory (701 Brazos St, Suite 1601) on Thursday, December 6th, at 7pm.  Please join us for free food, drinks and some awesome tech talks.

Topic: Crosstalk : SOA for the rest of us... in JavaScript - Crosstalk is a cloud platform for quickly implementing and prototyping Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) in JavaScript. Crosstalk runs on the Crosstalk Swarm, which is implemented using the Erlang "Let it crash" philosophy. Crosstalk has no single master node and relies on emergent behavior for Swarm management. The presentation will cover the reasons why Crosstalk was created, example code demonstrating Crosstalk functionality, as well as some general information on the infrastructure.

Speaker: Tristan Slominski - Tristan believes in challenging what is possible. He believes in making tomorrow simpler and more wondrous than today. He does this by building technologies that empower people. Tristan is Co-founder and CTO of Crosstalk Systems, Inc., the company behind Crosstalk.

Topic: `npm publish`: step 1 of infinity - NPM is an awesome asset for node. It's drastically reduced the friction for both using and publishing modules, creating an exciting and rapidly moving community. I'd like for us to talk about some of the things I've learned in my 2 year experience of building, fostering, and maintaining an unfancy but much needed node module: node-postgres. We will cover the things I've done right (go me!!), things I've done wrong (plenty), and things to consider when you decide to publish & promote a module. My hope is to kindle your creativity and provide a couple pointers of things to look out for along the way.

Speaker: Brian Carlson - Brian's been a full stack web developer since 2005 and has been active with node since the v0.2.x days.  Generally a generalist, he has a focus on product over rhetoric, fun over fanaticism, and simplicity over most things.  In his spare time he maintains a number of npm modules, works on various code experiments, writes music, cycles, and hangs out with his new wife.

Cheers,

Lalit & Johnathan

Unfortunately, I could only stay for the first talk. It was interesting to see what people are doing with NodeJS and the group was attentive and asked useful questions.
