Valley WordPress Meetup

We are meeting in a new space thanks to Kelly Albrecht. Learn more at http://clickworkspace.org/our-space/

We will be in Suite 150.

Kelly Albrecht, CEO of Last Call Media, is going to talk about NERDs (New England Regional Developers). Plus, there is a lot to catch up on in WordPress news. Version 3.8 is currently in beta and scheduled for release on the 12th with a host of new features.

Whether you are developer, designer or user, you are welcome to come and learn more WordPress and share your experiences.

I agree, I wanted more Wordpress! This happens in other groups when there is a lull in presentations offered by attendees. The result is lots of discussion based on attendee interest in that moment.

Greg, we should each offer a Wordpress presentation for the next meetup! I feel like I owe one after NERDs monopolization :)

I'm a Drupal person who was there for NERDS - to support Kelly in his efforts on this, because it needs to be not just Drupal people trying to do it, but rather Drupal+Wordpress+Rails+whatever. I barely have time to make it to our Drupal Group meetings (see https://groups.drupal....) so haven't been able get to other web meetups - I probably should make time. (I'm on the Amherst School Committee which knocks me out of a lot of nights). I would like to know more about Wordpress, Rails, etc.

Typically there about 10-12 people. Ed and at least one other person usually give good Wordpress specific presentations. Things have been a little tricky without a stable meeting location.

What sort of topics or presentations would people like to see next time? Q&A? Pair up for one-on-one time?

I personally love the idea of "recipes." Like "How to do a slideshow" or "How to create a web form."

I really enjoyed the discussion. Looking forward to more Wordpress (and Drupal) Meetups and helping with the NERDs movement!

Thanks for having us from the dark Drupal side ;-) Thanks Paul for the great space. I think a reason that the NERDS thing went long is that it's not just about the summit (shooting for October), but about a much broader topic of getting more people into our field, including adding diversity. We need to take that broad topic and turn it into specific tasks. So as Kelly said, anyone who wants to dive into that, go for it here: https://pm.nerdsummit.org

Yes, discussion of the summit did monopolize the evening, but I think it is a good thing to have as a goal and work toward to. To be fair there was some discussion of the performance of WordPress and the merits of frameworks. Future meetings will be much more on topic.

There really wasn't any discussion of WordPress. For me, 30 minutes would have been enough time to spend on the presentation for a proposed summit next fall.

Ed will be back facilitating - looking forward to it!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
