Digital Content Specialist

Responsible for developing Web site content and information architecture and applying a user-oriented perspective to the process. Create original written content for Web sites and other online communications media, and help develop or source content including text, still images (illustrations, photographs, graphs), audio, video, online forms, etc. Work closely with other media specialists, including graphic designers, Web developers, videographers and editorial staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Content Creation: Create editorial content for Web sites, including marketing/positioning statements, profiles, promotional copy, database content, navigation links, FAQs, etc. Research, interview subjects and organize editorial copy. Locate, select and, where appropriate, create multimedia content, including still images, graphics, video and music. Edit copy received from clients and content contributors. Revise and edit text of existing Smith Web sites. Prepare scripts, captions and other textual content for video, mobile apps and other multimedia projects. Design Web forms. Prepare text for bulk e-mail distribution. Clear copyright for the use of any existing content.

Design and Development: In consultation with clients and Web development staff, contribute to the information architecture and navigational design of Web sites, focusing on the ways in which the goals for the site and the needs of users can be met through appropriate content. Contribute to the process of information architecture design, to ensure that content is appropriately structured to meet the goals for the site and the needs of users. Contribute to documentation of the design.

Coordination and Planning: Work with editorial staff on the development and implementation of editorial policy for Web site content. Schedule the creation/acquisition of content and allocate tasks to additional content contributors. Manage the creation/acquisition of content in accordance with the schedule. Where appropriate, manage costs within agreed budgets.

Content Maintenance: Update and maintain time-sensitive material and ensure that online content is current and accurate. Respond to client and user inquiries, comments and suggestions. Keep up-to-date with best practices in writing for the Web, social media trends, Web usability and other trends.


Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
