Tell us a bit about your interests in reading. Be specific.

It's all about the characters for me, so I'm open to pretty much any genre. It doesn't have to be rainbows and sunshine, but I tend to dislike works that feature one dislikeable character after another, or that seemed determined to prove that people and the world in general are awful, and will never change. I tend to return to old favorites in fiction, because it is so (for me) to dig through all of the choices and find good books. A recent work that I did read and love was "The Song of Achilles" - a great example of likeable but flawed characters in a difficult situation.

What are preferred locations and days for you?

Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday and Sunday daytime. I don't have any specific preferred locations; the city is definitely preferable to Metairie traffic, imo. St. Charles and its offshoots, for example, are very easy to get to even for us West Bankers.

Are you strictly interested in discussing novels? What about short stories, poetry, plays, childrens lit.,etc?

Definitely not just novels - all of those would be great! They also have the advantage of generally being shorter, and thus easier to read on a deadline.

When managing your Profile, please be mindful that [1] a recognizable photo of you helps, [2] someone else in the group may share the same first name & [3] nicknames/handles though clever and cute, are a distraction and a burden on others. All fair?

Yep, sounds good.

Hi, I'm Kat Stelly. I home educate my two daughters, 7th and 9th grades, and recently ended a ten year stint as a part-time writer for the Times-Picayune.
