While we wait in keen anticipation of the next two Hobbit films, let us enjoy a festive gathering in honor of author and Oxford Professor J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973) on the eve of his birthday. You may choose to enter the Hobbit trivia contests, or take on the role of one of the characters as we read aloud scenes from the book. You may sit and relax, enjoying the revelry and bombast as we drink repeated toasts to "the Professor." Medieval/Renaissance costumes are optional. Also, you may choose to dress as your favorite character from the book--or any generic hobbit, dwarf, elf, wizard, goblin or troll. Drummers are welcome, as we will be punctuating the proceedings with live medieval music. And finally, you know how much we Hobbits enjoy eating, so "yes" this is a pot-luck event.
