What made you join the drum circle?

I saw it on Meetup and have been drumming for about eight years now so what the heck. I'm Native American (mixed with a few other ethnicities) and drumming is part of the culture of my ancestors.

What is your experience level with drumming (or other instruments)?

Probably intermediate or advanced. Not sure but that's an educated guess. I've played guitar since I was a teenager, and that's around forty years ago.

Are you better with learning rhythms by listening to them, or seeing them on paper?

Listening ... but I do have some music reading skills. Beginner in that area. And I know almost nothing about drum or percussion notation and would like to know something about it.

Would you be willing to play at any public events?

I love playing in public, as long as I have some idea what I'm doing. I would not play music I hadn't learned yet in a public event (like a concert, etc.) but would around the group I practice with.

What is your drum/instrument of choice? (Possibilities include: doumbeks, djembes, bougarabous, bhogram, bongos, etc.)

For drums, I like djembe, doumbek (and similar Middle Eastern drums), Tom, and hand percussion. I'm also trying to become familiar with the drums that are the tradition of my Native American ancestors. Drumming is an important part of my cultural awareness as well as just plain fun.

Introduction

I sing, play guitar and hand percussion (including drums). This group sounds like just my thing. I'm also a photographer and computer repair technician, and work part time in the film industry.
