St Johns Eve Drumming Details...

Ok, so I received a response from Mr. Martinie at the Voodoo Spiritual Temple.

A, You don't have to wear white.  Priestess Miriam doesn't subscribe to that belief.  In fact, the more colorful, the better (sorry for the previous post).

B, The ritual will start between 7 and 7:30... air on the side of caution, and come for 7.

C, It's at the Voodoo Spiritual Temple, on Rampart across the street from Congo Square.

D, Rituals usually last from 2-3 hours, and if you need to leave early, it's not disrespectful.

E, Offerings are appreciated.  Mr. Martinie told me that P. Miriam had a vision about a red pyramid consisting of red cabbages, red onions, garlic, and lemons, so maybe bring some of those as offerings.  Or you could bring money.  Or some rum, special stones, an unused candle for the altar, etc.  Use your best judgement.

I'll see you guys Wednesday.

Ty

Blessings Ty....Thanks for contacting the group. All are most welcome. Between about 1995 and 2000 the Temple had open rites every Thursday. All were invited to come and if they wanted, to drum. I set the rhythms, nothing real complicated. Just listening, playing  and respecting the Priestess.

I will electronic mail you a flier on the rite. Priestess Miriam got a vision of a pyramid constructed of red cabages, red oinions, garlic, amd lemons. the pyramid would be for strength in these hard times.

Looks like 7:00 (probably not start till 7:30 or so) on Wednesday the 23rd. at the New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple on Rampart across from Congo Square.

This sounds great.  I've already given the group a "heads up".

Couple of questions:

I run another meetup group (a Pagan group), and I know some members are keenly interested in voodoo.  Could some of them come to the ritual and either participate or watch?

YES,MOST DEFINITELY. THEY COULD COME WITH OFFERINGS, DRUM, OR SIMPLY COME. I'LL BE THERE TO ANSWER ANY PROTOCAL QUESTIONS.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO RESPECT.
Do we need to wear all white?

NO, THE TEMPLE DOESN'T WANT OR NOT WANT PEOPLES TO WHITE. CONGO SQUARE WAS A MARKET AND I BELIEVE THAT THE RITES WERE COLORFUL AFFAIRS. PRIESTESS MIRIAM DEEPLY VALUES THE INDIVIDUALS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LOA,AND HOW ONE DRESSES CAN BE AN EXPRESSION OF THIS.
How long do rituals typically last?

MAN, THAT IS OPEN. WE MAY GO DOWN TO THE RIVER. BUT, THE MAIN THING IS THAT IT IS NO DISRESPECT TO LEAVE. I USUALLY PLAN ON ABOUT 2 TO 3 HOURS TOTAL. ITS FINE TO LEAVE AFTER AN HOUR OR SO.

Thanks for the invite!!  Email me the details when you can.

Ashe!

Ty

Hello Ty...excellent timing....I just got back from doing drum rites at a festival up North.
It looks like Saint Johns Eve will be celebrated at the Temle on Wednesday evening.
You all are definitely invited.  I'll see Priestess Miriam tomorrow and e mail you the details.

Hi Louis.  My name is Ty... I met you at the Pagan Fest a couple of weeks ago.  I was told by one of my drum circle members (Jared, who apparently knows you) that you do the drumming at Priestess Miriam's.  I wanted to know if members of my drum circle could possibly join you there one day.

Let me know.

Thanks!

PS - I wanted to invite you to our drum circles... they're every Wednesday at 6 PM in my back yard, 6310 Music Street (off Canal Blvd.)  Visit our website at www.meetup.com/noladrum.
