Come join us as we see West Side Story, a classic, must-see Broadway show. We'll be seated in the Orchestra section: classy, eh?

West Side Story made a huge splash when it debuted on Broadway 50 years ago. Now ... it's back with great reviews, Tony nominations galore &, of course, all its unforgettable songs: "Tonight,” “America,” “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.”

The show is set in New York in the mid-1950s and explores the rivalry between two teenage gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The young protagonist, Tony, who belongs to the American gang, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the rival Puerto Rican gang's leader.

Reviews

“A ROUGHED-UP AND GORGEOUS NEW REVIVAL. IT SOARS. Seeing the huge cast in Robbins’ spectacular dances and hearing Bernstein’s majestic score played by a full orchestra is SHEER EXCITEMENT. THIS IS BROADWAY IN VERY FINE FORM: STANDING UP TO FACE DARKNESS HEAD ON, AND UNAFRAID TO BE A THING OF BEAUTY.” --Time Out

"This FRESH, BOLD production is SO EXCITING IT MAKES YOU ACHE WITH PLEASURE. IT’S BOTH AIRBORNE and TRANSCENDENT.” --New Yorker

Who attended?

  • 20 attendees
    •  Glad Sheryl put this together and got us really good seats. Sad to say, the performers playing Tony and Maria were the weakest of the bunch. Bernardo and Anita danced circles (literally and figuratively) around them.
    •  The show was phenomenal.
    •  The show was not bad at all. While I thought the producers took license with changing the scenes around ( as opposed to the movie) it was an interesting show. The lead singers had unbelievable voices especially the girl who played Maria, and the girl who played anita was phenominal.
    •  It was a terrific show. A really beautiful bunch of diverse, nice and friendly people in the group. My dinner was yummy! Encore!
    •  I enjoyed the play, and it was great to meet other members of group. This was my first meetup with "Culture for the Non-Cultured". I look forward to attending other events!
    •  As always, a first rate meetup! The people and the dinner afterwards were truly wonderful! And I know I'm in the minority, but while I thought there some really great moments, most of the production seemed high schoolish and not of the normal Broadway caliber I'd expect. Most of the dancing seemed very mechanical and Tony had serious problems emoting his character.
    •  Wonderful. I thought having the actors playing the Sharks, et. al speak Spanish added to the experience. Wanna dance, sing, stomp and twirl!
