Culture for the Non-Cultured saw this show last month, and had a great time, so why not go again -- this time with the Dinner and a Movie Meetup group .
Life in a Marital Institution: 20 years of monogamy in one terrifying hour, is written and performed by James Braly, who has been compared to Spalding Gray. I laughed when I saw it. Hard.
Other than that, the show is hard to describe, so I'll quote CBS: "The hourlong monologue is peppered with witty explanations of relationship compromises and pitfalls, including Braly's and [his wife's] 'unspoken mutual decay contract,' and their hot, alleged 'post-betrayal sex.'
Other Reviews
When we saw the show last time, other Culture Vultures said stuff like, "well-delivered lines and effortless manner gave it more of a feeling of having a engaging dinner conversation, "James Braly was in a word - brilliant,” "A great choice for a night of theater," and "beautifully done."
Here's a review from the New York Post
Here's a review from CBS
Here's a review from Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn, who said "What makes the show more than a "Take my wife, please" anti-marriage rant, is that Braly obviously feels deep love for his wife, his children and his sister, who died young of cancer.
After the show, there will be a talk-back with James Braly, then eatin', drinkin', & merry-makin' @ a to-be-determined location.
**Full disclosure: The company I work for markets this show.**
