Let's go on a guided tour of the International Center of Photography, shall we?! Because photography captures a moment in time, and a whole bunch of equally poetic things.
We'll get an overview of the museum, plus see the following cool exhibits. (Please see the ICP website for the full details.)
Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now
Yay! I love weird, and I love beauty. This exhibit sounds PERFECT.
This exhibition "will present the most innovative fashion photography of the last few years, from photographers who draw on a range of influences, including
- Art
- Sexuality
- Narrative
- Digital media
- Youth culture
- Graphic design on the way that fashion photography is presented
There will also be video!
This Is Not a Fashion Photograph
This Is Not a Fashion Photograph looks at the "non-fashion sources of contemporary fashion photography." (It's pics of dirty masses).
Edward Steichen: In High Fashion, The Condé Nast Years, 1923–1937
Wahoo!: 175 Fashion images from magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair!
Steichen's crisp, detailed, high-key style revolutionized fashion photography, and his influence is felt in the field to this day.
Some of the images in the exhibition are well-known, iconic images in various histories of photography.
Munkacsi's Lost Archive
It's pics of models and athletes in motion by Hungarian photographer Munkacsi. His unique style "required a combination of split-second timing and radical cropping." We'll get to see how he worked, because the exhibit include Munkacsi's recently discovered negative archive helps to clarify his working methods and uncover the secrets behind his most famous images.
