Nondualism Satsang

Our programs are a Sunday Alternative for those who believe that there is One absolute reality without a second (not-two, non-dual), and that each of us, although an individual person, is one with that reality, just as a wave is not separate from the ocean. The gatherings have become affectionately known as "church for yogis".

"Satsang" is a Sanskrit word with two roots. "Sat" refers to the notion of one, absolute, nondual (advaita) reality often called "Truth" or "Reality". "Sang" means simply coming together in a positive, loving, and friendly spirit of learning and inquiry.

The Sunday Satsangs are an aspect of, and are sponsored by Abhyasa Ashram. At 9:00am there is a guided meditation (details are in the individual calendar listings and the newsletters). At 10:00am is a discussion for about an hour and a half. We start with 5 minutes of silence, followed by the discussion, and end with 5 minutes of silence. Near the end of the meeting we decide the topic for the following week, based on the current conversation, so that we may ponder the topic during the week before the next meeting.

Our purpose is to maintain a loving fellowship and to provide a nurturing environment that is conducive to learning and experiencing the Oneness of Non-Dualism (often called "Self-realization"). We primarily align with the principles and practices of the tradition of the Himalayan masters, as expressed through Swami Rama and Abhyasa Ashram. However, we are people with a wide diversity of backgrounds and orientations, including (in alphabetical order) Atheism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Secular Humanism, Unitarian, Unity and others. Also included are backgrounds in the Course in Miracles, Eckhart Tolle, Ramana Maharshi, Twelve Steps, as well as various Lamas, Swamis and other teachers. What we have in common is the Nondual/Monistic or “All is One” perspective and a commitment to meditation and contemplation. Some lean towards theism (with a personal "God") and some are oriented towards atheism (without any personal "God" or "gods"). Others have no interest--one way or the other--in either "God" or religions.
