Beginner's Overnighter - ride to China Camp

Beginner's overnight: ride from San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge to China Camp State Park in San Rafael. We'll stop for food along the way and get there in time for some beach time. Should be fun (and crowded)! And hot.

It was a blast! Robert can you mark me as attended instead of no-show? :)

Robert, best first time leading a bike camping trip ever! Joe and I had so much fun our cheeks are sore from smiling! We look forward to many more rides, whether "glamping" or keeping it low key. Hope to stay in touch with everyone and stay tuned for video.

This is great. So excited about this, but forgot to ask if my husband can join us since he's really excited about bike touring as well. If not, I may bow out :(

So everyone should consider bringing the following:
    - tent and/or sleeping bag (forecast is sunny from low 50s to low 80s)
    - sleeping pad and camping pillow (optional, based on your own comfort prefs)
    - headlamp (for late night trips to the rest room or night riding)
    - matches or lighter (we can buy firewood from the camp manager)
    - eating utensil, bowl and/or cup
    - cooking apparatus and pot (you can borrow mine if you don't have one)
    - water bottle(s)
    - food, prepared or unprepared (we can pick this up along the way or after we make camp)
    - a small/med towel (always useful)
    - bathing suit (for San Pablo Bay?)
    - entertainment? (book, frisbee...)
    - ear plugs
    - an extra layer of clothes and/or beanie? (If you're the type that gets cold at night)
    - toothbrush and toiletries
    - sunscreen and sunglasses

If you don't have but need/want some of these items, chime in and I will see if someone in the group can share. You can text/call me at[masked] if you have any questions. Email works too.

Ok I'm really sorry about this but I'm going to postpone this ride for a week and reserve a full campsite for the use of our party on a Saturday night (July 13). Details to follow.

No the hike-in/bike-in is a first come/first serve camp site

Good news, I have now reserved a full campsite for our use (Campsite #23!) on Saturday. The maximum is 8 people so we may need to have some people camp at the hike/bike site.

SO, please send me your phone number if you want to confirm for the overnighter this weekend. I am compiling a list of things you should bring and things you might want to bring. Also, I will be pushing the start time back one hour to 10AM.

Hey, looks like I made it off the wait list. I've never done anything like this before! Are panniers necessary or is a decent hiking backpack going to work?

Either one should work. Hope you enjoy your first tour! This is going to be my first time leading one...

You should bring whatever you plan to sleep in (sleeping bag, tent...) and your own food and cooking equipment, along with utensils, containers, cups, etc. Although there will be a group of us I've thought of this as a primer on how to do your own solo overnight camping trip. We will be stopping along the way for a late morning brunch. After we've set up camp I plan to head to a local market to buy food for dinner and breakfast. Anyone is welcome to join me on this little sidetrip.

What's the deal with China camp these days? It was supposed to get shut then maybe it was going to be saved...
