Bike/Hike to Last Chance Falls ; Arroyo Seco River---Ventana Wilderness

I want to visit Last Chance Falls in the Arroyo Seco area while there are still plenty of wildflowers and a decent amount of water in the falls.
I plan on driving down Saturday morning from Millbrae Bart.
I can take up to three people with bikes and camping gear.

From the the Arroyo Seco Trailhead it's an easy packed dirt ride.

Only a 400ft. climb to Camp Cawatre where I plan to spend Sat. night. Any touring/road bike will work.
At Camp Cawatre is the original Arroyo Seco Adobe Ranger station, circa 1908.
No charge for camping there and plenty of year round water.

Saturday we'll hike to the falls from our camp. 8~10 miles round trip.

The bike ride is easy. The hike is a intermediate in distance with some scrambling at times. For the most part the trail is easy to follow and is next to a stream.

If people want to do an easier hike they can head along the Arroyo Seco River which has numerous swimming holes.

Last Chance Falls is a worthwhile goal,as it is the tallest single drop waterfall in Ventana Wilderness.

There is a large cave behind the falls that you can climb into and then stand directly under the water!

I plan on driving back Sunday morning, but others can stay a second night to explore the area further.

It's a 2 1/2 hr. drive from Millbrae Bart.

The views from the hike of several gorges were awesome! Dinner at camp Cawatre was extra nice. None of that dehydrated stuff on this trip!

I would love to come but have no car, tent, or a bike of my own. I can potentially borrow a bike from a guy I'm house sitting for, but does anyone have a spare bike, tent, and driving from SF?

hey eva. i'd be coming from san francisco so would you be able to get it on BART along with your own bike? i'm 5'11''. i just spoke with jim as well. if cristina isn't going, then i'm going to meet him and you at millbrae at 8 am, i believe. if cristina is going and driving, then i will probably go down with her. worst case scenario i can borrow this guy's bike i'm house sitting for, i believe, but if i can avoid it i'd prefer to!

btw what kind of food and cooking implements are people bringing? since it's so last minute, was thinking about cooking up rice and lentils that i have at home and bringing in tupperware.

@Steve, sorry, I didn't see this Friday night. I'm not sure if there was a glitch, but I was online until 8 p.m. or so, then I was offline for about 2 hours while I commuted on Caltrain and BART. Hope you made it work somehow.

Lincoln is bringing folks from the East Bay,so I still have room in my car.
I have a spare tent you can borrow.

Hi Jim, thanks again. Sorry with all the questions and indecisions. But I haven't had time to pack and I have really small panniers. Will your tent fit in my pannier, I wonder. And will I need to carry a lot a lot of food, etc. I just don't know if I can get it all together by tonight. I am working until pretty late. I'm still hoping to come, but it is looking kinda slim. But maybe if I can pack tonight somehow . . .

You could camp in the adobe if you do not want to bring a tent. See the second picture in the meetup description.

If there is still an opening coming from Millbrae, I'd love to join. Should be able to get all my gear together.

@Jim, oh wow, nice. But, I am still unsure if I can. Thanks so much for offering your tent!! I will confirm once I know if I can join. Thanks again!!

I assume your car is now full. ?? So, a road bike is fine? Also, this looks enticing, but my ex-boyfriend has my tent and I'd have to find one or buy one in 2 days. Thanks.
