Details

The upcoming tour in Henry Coe is on!

Things to bring: bike that can handle dirt roads, helmet(mandatory), spare tube, tools, food to last entire 3 days, water(no need to bring water purifier as I have one), and cash to pay for the permit.

The itinerary is flexible and would could change things up when we get there. We will take a vote.

Friday:

Drive into the park from Bell station and park the cars along Kaiser Aetna road. From there take the free shuttle to the Orestimba Corral and then bike to Missisippi Lake and camp near Bear Mountain.

Saturday:

Go for a bike ride unloaded. Take a hike possibly into the Orestimba Wilderness. Return to camp. Relocate to the Orestimba Corral.

Sunday:

Pack up gear and bike to the meeting place for the guided hike to Pacheco Falls. After the hike return to the cars and leave Henry Coe.

I have a car that can accommodate two others. We will need a second vehicle. So given this does anyone have one that can carry bikes and gear? Anyone from the wait list who can provide a vehicle and can carry gear and passengers will be given preference for this trip.

The cost of the permits will be split up evenly amongst the attending group members. The total cost is $65

Here are the rules to be followed as per the Pine Ridge Association and Henry Coe state park:

No dogs or other pets allowed.

Vehicles are permitted only on Kaiser Aetna road and car campers and horse trailers only on the Orestimba Creek road and as far as the Orestimba Corral.

Weekend visitors: Vehicles are not permitted in/out privledges during the weekend (Except for emergencies).

Backpackers and one day visitors may not drive to the Orestimba Corral. A shuttle will be provided.

Drinking water will be available at the Orestimba Corral and Pacheco Creek Crossing. All water in the backcountry (springs, streams, and lakes) must be purified so bring purifiers.

Bring all food and beverages that you will need.

The road from Bell's station to Pacheco Creek Crossing and the Orestimba Corral is unpaved. The road is wide and in good condition most of the way. Motor homes and camp/tent trailers are not permitted because of the sharp embankments. Only those vehicles with the high clearance (minimum 8") are allowed to drive to the Orestimba Corral area.

Horse trailers should be hauled by a 4 wheel drive.

No open fires, barbeques, or hibachis allowed. Use backpacking or camp stoves only.

Bring sunscreen and insect repellant. Ticks are very common. Watch out for poison oak.

Only maps, water bottles, wildflower brochures, and power bars will be for sale at Orestimba Corral, Pacheco Creek Crossing and at Bell's Station.

Please don't pick the wildflowers. All plants, animals, and features of the park are protected.

Bicycles are permitted except on designated "no bike" trails and in the State Wilderness areas.

The Alquist Trail is CLOSED to bicycles.

Fishing is permitted. A 2014 Califorinia fishing license is required for anyone 16 years of age or older. Catch and release is encouraged.
