Box Dog Bikes has graciously offered to host our social! In case you don't know them yet, they're a touring, randonneuring, and everyday cycling-focused, worker-owned bike shop in the Mission.

There will be plenty of table/counter space for the usual array of potluck food. As per usual, bring something to drink and/or eat :) There will be a little bit of fridge space for the beer drinkers.

The party can run til 10pm, at which point we can move to the bar next door (Thieves Tavern) if we feel like it!

Did anybody see a blue canvas sleeve with some maps, notebook and headphones? Paul and I have looked everywhere in the shop but didn't find it.

Thanks for a great night everyone, was super nice mingling and meeting you all and picking your brains! I feel like I've got a good basis to continue my planning/researching for my touring. If anyone has any further advice regarding cheap/secondhand bikes, or bike rental, I'd love to hear it as I am currently an employed bum so money is an issue :). Thanks again folks! Hope I can catch you all again before I leave the country

Sorry to have to miss this.

PS I hope you can hold another social in the East Bay soon-(eg The Hot Italian is bike friendly and MacArthur BART is a short distance away.) I'd offer my place, but it's not centrally located-requires BART+bus or BART+ bike ~ 2 miles + up a big hill!

I'll try to pick something up and swing by after work, but I typically have been getting out late around 8PMish at which point most places are also closed. It looks like Box Dog Bikes also closes at 7PM, if I'm coming afterwards should I just wait until the next meet-up or is there anyway to still get in?

sweet! Thanks for letting me know.

I think the store closes at 7pm but the social will still be there.

Hey Max, I'll have our gates closed after eight, but you can just slide them aside. If you are coming late, lock up outside the shop and come right in.

I hope its appropriate, I am hoping to come and pick peoples' brains/get advice for my own long trip up the West Coast starting soon - I am brand-new to touring and still need to assess the realism of the trip :)

Oh, I'd love to hear more thoughts on this as well, I was thinking to do the Pacific Crest Bike Trail, or at least some sections of it this Spring/Summer

I'm excited to host this event and meet a bunch of rad new folks! For bike parking, we have a bike rack out front, and plenty of space in the back of the store if you didn't bring a lock.

Hey guys, Box Dog Bikes (a touring-centric, worker-owned bike shop) has offered to host our meetup this month! But let's keep those suggestions in mind for another social, we're always looking for places :D

I could check with Breathe California if we could use their top floor offices in Daly City (Junipero Serra Blvd. down the street from John Daly Blvd.); since I have a Logistics Committee meeting there on Monday night for their July 12th Bike for Breath Ride?

    Or just plain location ideas?

Poisson d'Avril! Should we potluck some simple French fare & wine? (Or my post ride recovery drink of Hopyard Oatmeal Stout or Guinness Extra Stout should also complement most foods/snacks).

    March 24, 2014

    • Ellie

French fare sounds yummy, in my totally unbiased opinion :D but first, need to find a place!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
