This ride is 61 miles, it continues the loop around the bay started by the Ardenwood butterfly ride. This is a tour or exploratory ride and as such does not take a direct route to the destination. Since I am not familiar with the route expect surprises such as closed or non-existent paths. I expect some searching and redirection from the planned route and it could be slow. I expect to need the full 8 hours to cover the 61 miles so we will start at 9:30 sharp at Union City BART station. If you miss the start or fall behind at any point it should be easy to catch up by short cutting the route and the pace will be moderate.
For people who would like a later start we will stop in downtown Redwood City (mile 22) near the Caltrain station for lunch at 11:30-12:00. Leaving Redwood city around 12:00 the ride will continue along the Bay up to South San Francisco (mile 44) to get snacks and regroup around 2:30-2:45.
We will meet at 5:30 or 6 in the Mission for dinner. Suggestions are welcome for the dining location so we can declare it before the ride. This ride is urban and if you get tired it is easy to catch a train or bus home but I expect that most people will be able to ride and enjoy the 61 miles because it is very flat.
See the following URL for the route.
If you are frisky and are ahead of the group, I suggest a detour over to Holly Park, Bernal Hill Blvd and Precita Park for a little climbing and possibly a view of the sunset if the timing is right (5:26pm)
I will schedule the sequel, Fremont BART to the Mission SF ride soon, that will be a faster ride incorporating Sawyer camp trail and Skyline Blvd with climbing, ocean views and a challenging merge on Skyline.
