Gordy Hoffman, the Sundance award-winning writer/director (LOVE
LIZA, A COAT OF SNOW) and founder of the BlueCat Screenplay
Competition, comes to Dallas to lead a pair of screenwriting
workshops on Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23 (9:00am to 6:
00pm each day).

Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance
Film Festival for LOVE LIZA, Gordy Hoffman made his feature
directorial debut with his script, A COAT OF SNOW, which world
premiered in 2005 at the Locarno International Film Festival.

He has conducted screenwriting workshops all over North
America, Poland and the UK, and has taught screenwriting at the
USC School of Cinematic Arts and the University of Kansas. He's
attached to direct CORDELIA, written by Melissa Brandt, a love
story inspired by KING LEAR, and he's writing a comedy about
Christmas shopping.

THE FULL SCRIPT WORKSHOP
This workshop will consist of six writers each submitting a
full screenplay to each member in advance of the workshop day,
with plenty of time for each participant to read each other's
work. Gordy will also read the screenplays in advance and
provide brief written feedback on each screenplay.

On the workshop day, we will go over each screenplay in depth,
providing each writer with a constructive, specific reaction
from the group on their current draft, as well as the
suggestions on what they should address in the next rewrite.

THE FIRST TEN PAGES WORKSHOP
This workshop will consist of twelve writers each submitting
the first ten pages of a screenplay to each member in advance
of the workshop day. We will go over each work individually,
discussing the specific, unique and common challenges each
writer faces. This discussion will include the technical
aspects of description and dialogue, the depth and reality of
the characters, and how the first ten pages reflect where the
entire story begins.

We will read each writer's pages in the workshop, allowing the
screenwriter to hear their screenplay aloud. Each writer will
be asked to read the material in advance of the workshop to
maximize the constructive input each participant receives.

Audit Option:
Do you want to participate, but do not have a screenplay to
submit? You may elect to audit and attend with workshop without
submitting written material, while still participating in the
discussion. The fee to audit is $45.
