Wednesday Evening Walk - Shoreline Interurban Trail

Let's try again, seeing as rain and snow stopped us yesterday.

This portion of the Interurban trail starts near the Aurora VillageTransit Center and runs by Echo Lake, behind the YMCA, Sky Nursery and then runs parallel to Aurora Avenue in front of the Bartell's shopping center to Walgreens.

Tonight we will start at the other end, near Menchies Yogurt, and we will walk the Interurban Trail to Echo Lake and I will make a loop through some streets and back around to Menchies(that way we are all set to have frozen yogurt at the end). It is wide and paved and the last section is well lighted. I am not sure if the first section by the lake is lit up so bring a head lamp and/or flashlight ( I did drive by and notice that lights are along the trail by Echo Lake Park). Wear proper footwear for the weather and conditions. Rain, ice, frost can make for a slick walkway.

How good are you at juggling a leash or two, a flashlight, a poop bag, and an umbrella while wearing gloves? Not sure, then come walk with us on Wednesday evenings. You will get plenty of practice.

Let's continue meeting in the evening for a walk. We will just have to stick to lighted streets and not trails. Be sure that you are equipped to be seen in the waning light. Bring a flashlight and/or put lights on yourself and your dogs. I use Nite Ize Lights. They are great little lights (come in a variety of colors) that either flash or have a steady beam and clip nicely onto the dog's collar and my zipper pull. They are widely available at most pet stores (next to nature, All the Best) and drug stores (Bartell's). I am open to suggestions about where you like to walk so if you have a favorite route let me know and I may post it.

Dogs in attendance must be leashed and have their owner present.

No children under the age of 12, unless they are in a stroller.

We will make it a priority to walk as a group. Paces may be a little different but I will stop along the way for others to catch up. Everybody needs to watch out for others. Let somebody know if you need a break or are going to turn around/

Please check email or this site the day of the event for any last minute changes or cancellations due to weather, road closures, illness, etc. I will try to post last minute details by 7am.

I liked seeing all of our little lights bobbing in the darkness!

Once again the dogs created a rain shadow and we had a nice window of dry weather for our walk. It amazes me how the drive to the walk is in the rain and the drive home is in the rain but we rarely get rained on while walking. Let's hope this good karma continues.

I really like the trail and the area in general.

I'm crossing my fingers that the rain holds off until after our walk, but come prepared. Meet near Menchies (the shopping centre across from Fred Meyers at 185th and Aurora) and we will start there and walk the Interurban Trail towards Echo Lake - it is lighted. I do start these walks right at 7PM so if you are running late you could pick us up at Echo Lake park and do the second half with us. See you later
